Ok so the answers to my post below are….. ✅ Potash - from a mine in the North East of England ✅ Context - the ultimate stakeholder interview… meeting a group of miners, a mile underground and two miles out to sea!! Before designing a bespoke 360 we wanted to really get to know them, and understand their world…. there was only one way of doing that well.... To this day, it remains one of my most memorable client meetings!!!! 👷♀️ Whatever ETS plc delivers (surveys, 360s, leadership development, team effectiveness….) we always start with context.... Like many people, “Mr Bates vs The Post Office” left me feeling for the victims, and feeling anger at our inhumanity to each other, at the distress and loss of life. If you saw it too, I’m sure you felt the same. The fact that so many subpostmasters suffered because of a faulty IT system also says a lot about how change is managed, how accepting we can be of ‘what the computer says’, and how blind we can be (whether innocently or otherwise) to a growing number of data points. The inquiry into the Post Office Horizon scandal has been running since January 2020. News about problems with the system first broke in 2009. NOW it has become part of our national consciousness. But it wasn’t the news that grabbed our attention. Neither was it a stats report, or infographic. It was a story. Brevity has its place, eye-catching design has it too. But ‘storytelling’ is still an important way to convey an idea when you need to capture the imagination, increase understanding and raise awareness. It’s also the best way to humanise a narrative…because all narratives involve humans. Something to think about when you next have learning to impart?
