I know a company that is looking for a talented proposal writer/tech writer. Full time, W2.
They need someone who speaks the language of health IT systems, Agile development, and US Federal Government procurement. You don't have to be able to build health IT systems, but you do need enough of a background to know what matters when writing about it in a proposal.
On the proposal side, they value talent more than experience. On the tech writer side, they need attention to detail and the ability to pull relevant details out of subject matter experts. Familiarity with NIH is a plus. An understanding of what it takes to win in writing is key. Technical accuracy is important, but it's not enough.
Being on the Maryland side of the beltway is a plus, but they might go for someone remote who's got the talent.
They have mature processes and take them seriously, so I'm sure HR has a real position description that needs to be fulfilled. You'll have to talk to them to get those details. I don't even know how much they are paying.
What I do know is that this company is my favorite to work with in the whole world. Given the number of companies I've worked with and my published recommendations about proposal development, that says a lot. I will be advising them through the hiring process. If you have a little technical background and want to learn the fine art of proposal writing and pursuit strategy in a career changing kind of way, reach out to me and I'll pass your information on to them.
