Reflecting on the Balkan Green Policy Lab as we celebrate the International Day of Clean Energy! 🌍 After launching this concept last year, members of green political parties in the Balkan region gathered for a second time, this round in North Macedonia, to coordinate #GreenEnergy policies for the region. Discussions focused on the Green Parties' vision for a just and inclusive transition towards #EUaccession, and a socially and environmentally sustainable, #CarbonNeutral region based on #RegionalCooperation. Last weekend, the parties from Serbia, Croatia, Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, North Macedonia, and Montenegro agreed on the roadmap to develop these evidence-based policies in the #Balkans. Now, they are collaboratively working to co-create a platform that supports this effort. It’s always so inspiring to witness green parties mobilizing for an inclusive transition to energy sources that benefit both people and the planet💚 A special shoutout to our co-hosts Westminster Foundation for Democracy (WFD), SF - Socialistisk Folkeparti, & European Greens for their contributions! What's the difference between #greenenergy and #cleanenergy for you? What energy policies are you inspired by? 💚☀️ #InternationalDayOfCleanEnergy #Greens #EasternEurope

✍ Signature highlight! ✍ We are happy to share that Finnish EU candidate Ville Kaunisto (EPP) signed our manifesto, demonstrating his support for the cleantech transition and a future of sustainable innovation. 🌿 💡 Ville shared his perspective in the following words: ”Strong European single market is the key for Europe’s success. With past and on-going crises the politicians have taken the easy way out with massive state aids and implementing excessive regulation. This is not the right way for Europe. Cleantech can give Europe the edge in the global competition. We need more freedom and more competition with political stability and predictability for businesses and investors to succeed in Europe.” In our manifesto, we also highlight the importance of the single market in driving cleantech growth and the need for a predictable policy landscape. We are thrilled that Ville shares our perspective on this matter and are grateful to have his support as we move forward! 🚀 🌍 See the manifesto in full and follow signatures here: https://lnkd.in/dWszDebG Breakthrough Energy Tuomas Oksanen Jussi Teijonsalo Magnus Agerström Alexander Lidgren Eva Andersson Ville Kaunisto Merja Kyllönen

On 15 June Nefco - the Nordic Green Bank co-organised with The Nordic Council of Ministers and The Nordic Council an event at the Danish democracy festival, #Folkemødet, to discuss about the impact of #Danish and #Nordic investments in the #Ukrainian utility sector. The event, moderated by Vibeke Hartkorn, was opened by the words of Oleksandr Syenkevych, Mayor of Mykolaiv who described the damages to the critical infrastructure and the hardship experienced by the Mykolaiv citizens. “We need to think about the future, the end of the war. Mykolaiv can be a door to the Ukrainian market for Danish companies in the utility sector,” The panel agreed there is a continued need for sizeable investments in Ukraine to enable the country to build back better and greener and the need for intensified investments in the country as soon as the war ends. ✅Bo Eske Nyhus, CESGA, Investment Director at Nefco, said "If we fail to support the green transition in Ukraine, it will negatively impact our environment and the region’s stability” ✅ Søren Peter Andreasen, Deputy CEO of IFU, highlighted that "IFU prioritises green energy and infrastructure investments, preferably using Danish knowledge and technology" ✅ Jørn Fredsgaard Sørensen, Head of Country and Bank Risk at Export and Investment Fund of Denmark presented that "EIFO’s mission is to promote Danish exports and present the opportunities in Ukraine for Danish businesses. 🌱 Take a moment to read this insightful opinion piece by Justina Grigaraviciene, High-Level Adviser on Environment and Green Transition within the EU High-Level Advisers Mission to Moldova. The European Green Deal (EGD) is not just a vision for a sustainable, resource-efficient future within the European Union, but also a transformative roadmap for Moldova. As the country works to meet EU standards, it faces significant socio-economic changes that require collaboration from government institutions, CSOs, and the private sector. ✅ Key focus areas: Benefits for 🇲🇩: Modern infrastructure, improved quality of life, cleaner air, safer drinking water, better public transportation, and healthier living conditions. Empowering local actors: Facilitating dialogue, fostering mutual understanding, and encouraging collaborative efforts are essential. Local actors must lead the green transition. Priority sectors: Agriculture, energy, and infrastructure sectors need to adopt climate neutrality, enhance resilience, and increase resource efficiency. 💡 Effective communication is crucial for shaping public perception and gaining support. This means making the EGD’s goals and benefits clear and relatable to Moldovans, fostering behavioural change, and ensuring broad acceptance. 🔨 It is a win-win-win: green rebuilding of Ukraine can begin! 🔨 Earlier this summer we celebrated a significant milestone with the Danida Green Business Partnership’s approval of the Low Carbon Cement and Green Concrete Production Demonstration Project with our partner Neo-Eco Ukraine. A project that targets three positive impacts: ✅ It creates local employment for war veterans and other vulnerable groups ✅ It donates green building materials to local authorities for rebuilding of social institutions such as schools ✅ And it showcases to all rebuilding actors that the rebuilding can be done in a green way. Mission East and NeoEco have now concluded the detailed planning of the project that will run for the coming 3 years, implemented from our joint office in Mykolaiv. The two partners have completed several projects together already in the region but believes this project to stand out holding immense promise and potential for transformative impact. 🌱 The project will build a demonstration plant in Mykolaiv where low carbon cement will be produced from waste materials emitting 90% less carbon compared to traditional products. The cement will be mixed with crushed rubble from destroyed buildings to make green concrete to be used in the local rebuilding efforts. NeoEco is a leading company in circular economy, working with the utilisation of waste in building materials around the world and Mission East is grateful to have the opportunity to draw upon their expertise in our efforts to support the rebuilding of Ukraine: 💬 "After a long and complicated planning period reflecting the complexity of the project and the challenging context close to the war zone, I am very excited to see the project taking off. Besides benefitting the local community, I believe it will bring substantial value to the general rebuilding of Ukraine by demonstrating that circular approaches can in fact be cost-efficient as well as protecting the environment and climate. Amidst this humanitarian tragedy, it is an important priority to Mission East also to keep the climate crisis in mind and ensure that the rebuilding efforts do not emit more CO2 than absolutely necessary." Maj Forum, Mission East Programme Manager. 🔍 For more insights about the project, funded by the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, click here: https://lnkd.in/eiicWEvp And don't miss Maj Forum's appearance on Ukrainian television, where she discusses our initiatives in-depth: https://lnkd.in/d7XtU3fS #DGBP, #Danida, #dkaid #Ukraine #greenrebuilding
