Pelvic Organ Prolapse Awareness Month is just around the bend. Patients, practitioners, industry, please BANG the DRUM long and loud next month! APOPS established #POPAwarenessMonth in 2014 via Joint Resolution 71 with introductory efforts of Senators Lazich and Taylor, and cosponsored by Representatives Endsley, Skowronski, and Johnson. I remain so thankful for their engagement. If 1 in 2 women prevalence isn't enough to lift the veil on this common, cryptic women's health issue, I don't know what is. Here's a link to some tools to aid process. Keep it simple, every event matters! https://lnkd.in/eTAJvEpN Here's some suggestions to event types. https://lnkd.in/gTWppBAg #APOPS #womenshealthempowerment #TheBiggestSecretinWomensHealth

New on the blog: I offer an analysis of the "Ob*sity Bill of Rights" that was presented earlier this year by Right2ObesityCare. While the bill seems to care for the well-being of plus-size patients, it's clear from reading it that it's simply more of the same anti-fatness - and that it only entrenches tired standards and practices that ultimately demonize patients with large bodies. Read the post here: https://lnkd.in/gHq9j73f Want to learn more about uprooting oppressive norms in your care practice? I offer consultations both for individual care practitioners and on an organizational level - visit https://lnkd.in/gtXficXA to learn more and get in touch! The system of oppression is familiar, and the force of familiarity is why poor decisions are repeated. (They feel familiar so it has to be ‘correct’) This article is talking about the force of familiar and how it is easy to unknowingly keep repeating oppressing fat bodies.
