Insight from our Monitoring & Evaluation Process Our charities show that entering joint bids with peers for funding from trusts and foundations makes them more than the sum of their parts. Joint bids have often been more successful, as many funders find the reduced risk associated with shared delivery appealing. They are a win for charities too; they can share expertise and overcome any individual weaknesses or skill gaps leading to stronger delivery. It also reduces silo working and duplication, resulting in greater impact. In an increasingly tough funding landscape, it can be tempting for small organisations to see each other as competition; but charities might be missing a trick if they do this. However, while collaboration can be fruitful, actioning a plan can be time-consuming and place further strain on resources. #smallcharities #socialchange #socialjustice #funding #socialenterprise #charities #inequality #grantmaking

Donors have the opportunity to maximize their impact by believing in the immense potential of smaller organizations. Organizations like ours, are closest to the work. Once you have found an organization or organizations to support, give them what they need to thrive. Unrestricted funding allows charities to decide how to use funds. This flexibility enables charities, who are in the best position to know how money should be spent, to distribute funds as they see fit.
Equipped with relevant local knowledge, small charities are taking action to great effect. And yet, donors are not stepping up to fund this work. Small charities rarely have money to spend on extensive fundraising campaigns. Small organizations may struggle to keep staff on the payroll and provide their services consistently as funding comes and goes. If the funding these charities receive is restricted, they may not afford essentials. It is impossible to think about expanding service areas or creating new programs when charities aren’t sure what their financials will look like next quarter. As a small foundation, we are grateful to the support of our individual donors and corporate partners. 💓 Thank you for making what we do possible, every day.
