Visiting BAC-Impalloy in Denmark again on a very nice summer day for final inspection of a CP retrofit project going across the Atlantic Ocean, and yet again kicking of another project to be deployed in the North Sea this coming fall. FORCE Technology Norway in collaboration with BAC-Impalloy are proud to announce that this batch of CP retrofit anode sleds just finished are in fact the first batch of the newest low Zinc alloyed Aluminum anodes delivered to the market. This new fully certified Aluminium anodes will contribute to less release of Zinc to the marine environment. Even though debated, if release of Zinc from galvanic anodes is of any harm to the environment, it is still a small step to reduce our environmental footprint. I had the privilege to present at the National Association Steel Pipe Distributors conference in Santa Fe on June 7, 2024. My paper, titled Significant Innovation in the Steel Industry, highlighted the impact of new technologies introduced during my time at ASEA (now known as ABB) in the 1980s. These innovations revolutionized steelmaking processes, marking a significant milestone in modernizing the industry. At ASEA, I played a key role in the introduction of these technologies to the US steel industry. They were the ASEA-SKF Ladle furnace, the DC Arc Furnace, and the Stressometer flatness control system. These innovations, born out of close collaboration between ASEA and Swedish steel producers, set new standards in steel manufacturing. The successful commercialization of these technologies paved the way for similar advancements by other steelmaking equipment manufacturers. This experience underscores the vital role of suppliers and vendors in driving innovation within industrial plants.
