Professor of Public Management at University of Glasgow, Co-editor of the European Management Journal, Associate Director of Scottish Graduate School of Social Sciences
I was pleased to write this article in Wonkhe with Anna Morgan-Thomas, based on research we did with Serafeim Tsoukas and Pawel Gaska and which is now out in Research Policy. In the first conclusive evidence on post-DORA research assessment, · We investigate the impact of responsible assessment on research evaluation outcomes in the post-DORA landscape · We test the association between journal rankings and REF scores across 108 institutions and 13973 outputs using 2021 data · We find that the strong correlation between journal rankings and expert score has not changed despite institutional DORA endorsements · We also find that the correlation is strongest for the most prestigious journals In the Wonkhe article, we reflect on the implications of our findings for peer-review / expert scoring processes in REF. Give it a read at lunch time! But if you prefer the longer version and to get insight into our findings, check out our paper here: https://lnkd.in/e3q99Xnt
New on Wonkhe: Anna Morgan-Thomas and Adina Dudau share some recent research on peer review which raises critical questions about the future of research evaluation and the REF. https://lnkd.in/eggUgiYQ

Susan Davis-Becker, PhD, ICE-CCP is among the I.C.E. R&D Committee members and experts who co-authored a new research paper titled Test Disruption and Impacts on Test Validity. This I.C.E. research report examines the role of test disruption on the validity and interpretation of credentialing assessment results. The study was commenced to both understand disruption (that is, planned and unplanned changes) and identify best practices on how to avoid, prepare for, or mitigate disruptions. Systematic review: A study of studies •Systematic reviews seek to collate evidence that fits pre-specified eligibility criteria in order to answer a specific research question. •It aims to minimize bias by using explicit, systematic methods documented in advance with a protocol.

In sponsored research Peer review isn’t just a checkpoint—it’s the backbone of quality and integrity throughout the research process. From evaluating grant proposals and manuscripts to safeguarding ethical standards, peer review ensures that only the most innovative and impactful work moves forward. Whether it’s guiding funding decisions, shaping research programs, or advancing careers, peer review is vital at every step, reinforcing excellence in the research community. In Fibi, we’ve made it easier to manage this critical process with our review feature, designed to support research administrators and Principle Investigators in every step of the way. Here’s a glimpse of it in action. #Sponsoredresearch #peerreview #proposalreview #budgetreview #fibieRA

The UK Research Supervision Survey (UKRSS) 2021 told us that supervisors take great pride and joy in supervision, that they want to support the researcher as well as the research, that being a supervisor enhances their own research, and that there were limited opportunities for reflection, recognition or reward. Three years later we want to know if the picture has changed and to use your experiences to inform and guide RSVP, and our vision for supervision practice. If you are a research supervisor, or a postdoc who ‘helps out’ with supervision, please take some time to complete the survey. Your experiences and voice are vital to our understanding of what works, and what kind of support and changes you need. 📝 Take part in the survey (closes 16 July 2024): https://lnkd.in/eWFj5Y-Y #UKRSS24
We're running a survey in partnership with Next Generation Research SuperVision Project (RSVP) to study the experiences of those who supervise doctoral candidates. We'd love to hear from you - please follow the link to participate and potentially win £250 (closes Jul 15th). #UKRSS24 https://lnkd.in/eWFj5Y-Y
