A few weeks ago I had the chance to give an interview about the challenges in scaling sustainable EV infrastructure in Germany and beyond. As an early mover, we have learned a lot in the German market, however we observe first generation products that lack recent software support. Those render over time to “dead chargers” standing around with no possibility to update them for new features and regulations. It is time to not only formally request maintenance but to take it seriously and request maintenance offers including software updates as part of tenders. If we don’t make charging infrastructure updates a sustainable business, we create the risk to render more and more infrastructure installations useless or even worse taking down the user experience contrary to improving it. Jörg, you got it! We need to take standardization one step up: from technology to interfaces (both HW and SW). That would prolong the useful life of current infrastructure and lead to better adoption. Keep at it, my friend!
