Issues with Upcycling and Circularity in the Fashion Industry: Small businesses in India are working on giving a second life to textile scraps collected from local shops and turning them into multiple products like bags, pouches, jewellery, and hair accessories by a time-consuming yet creative process of cleaning and sorting the scraps according to colour, texture, weight, etc., and finally stitching them. At Iro Iro, founder designer Bhaavya Goenka uses a technique of cutting fabric strips and using them as yarn to hand weave them into a fabric. The brand integrates waste management alongside preserving local craftsmanship. According to her, many conscious designers today have developed and adopted solutions to design and produce mindfully. ‘There are solutions to make upcycled products but not enough solutions to sell and market them’, says Bhaavya. She further shared that there is a need to educate customers and sell and market upcycled fashion with fresh perspectives. #upcycling #circularity #Fashion #India

Eco-friendly leather from fruit waste? In a groundbreaking move towards sustainability, researchers and innovators are pioneering the creation of eco-friendly leather from fruit waste. This innovative process involves repurposing discarded fruit parts, including peels, seeds, and pulp, which would otherwise contribute to landfill waste or require energy-intensive disposal methods. By extracting fibers and proteins from these agricultural byproducts, they can develop durable and versatile materials that mimic the properties of traditional leather. The production of green leather from fruit waste presents numerous environmental benefits. It: ✔️ Helps alleviate the strain on landfills ✔️ Reduces greenhouse gas emissions ✔️ Contributes to a circular economy model ✔️ Promotes resource efficiency (utilizing materials that would otherwise go to waste) Embracing the development of green leather from fruit waste signifies a significant step towards a more sustainable future for the leather industry. GREEN LEATHER IN FASHION Another beauty of green leather is its profound versatility. From moto jackets in various styles and hues to elegant black dresses and innerwear, it has discovered various applications to be incorporated into. How many dresses you have? Are they piled up in your wardrobes? Are you wearing them often? Recently I have been to a posh mall in Delhi and found that the base price of any dress starts from Rs.15,000/- . Not exaggerating. This is fact. And they are Indian brands. To name few, Devasyam, Gyani, Masaba et al. Do they really worth the price other than to carry that brand tag? The big question is how long or how often are we going to wear those clothes? I don’t want to dwell into reasons behind pricing, but touch base upon sustainability. ✅What are you doing with your old clothes? Giving away to someone who can use? Good choice. ✅How are you recycling your old dresses or saris? ✅Can be converted into dresses of your choice. ✅Can be converted as quilts, cushion covers or curtains to add an element of ethnicity. ✅can be stitched as bags, table covers or runners. Look at the facts here: 1. 92 million tonnes of textiles waste is produced every year 2. In America alone, an estimated 11.3 million tons of textile waste – equivalent to 85% of all textiles – end up in landfills on a yearly basis. 3. The throwaway culture has worsen progressively over the years. At present, many items are worn only seven to ten times before being tossed. That’s a decline of more than 35% in just 15 years. 4. The fashion industry is responsible for 20% of global waste water. 5.. It takes 20,000 litres of water to produce one kilogram of cotton. 6. $500 billion is lost each year because of Fast fashion brands are producing twice the amount of clothes today than in 2000 under-wearing and failure to recycle clothes. 7. Nearly 10% of microplastics dispersed in the ocean each year come from textiles. 8. Fast fashion brands are producing twice the amount of clothes today than in 2000. Have you started recycling your old clothes? My sustainability journey has begun. Here’s a handloom saree converted as dress by @niharikadesisgn studio , Hyderabad. She is a specialist in designerware, Handlooms and runs a boutique in Hyderabad. #sustainability #plasticfreejuly #sustainablefashion

Introduced by Aditya Birla Group, this fabric has been unfairly labeled as "synthetic," but it's actually a blend of natural cellulose (from wood pulp) and chemicals. So, what's the big deal about viscose rayon? 🤔 ✨ 𝐋𝐮𝐱𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐨𝐮𝐬 𝐋𝐨𝐨𝐤𝐬 𝐨𝐧 𝐚 𝐁𝐮𝐝𝐠𝐞𝐭: Viscose rayon mimics the look and feel of silk, but it's way more affordable. Think flowing dresses, silky blouses, and elegant drapes for your home. ✨ 𝐔𝐧𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐝 𝐕𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲: This fabric can be woven or knitted, and it blends beautifully with linen, cotton, and even spandex. It's no wonder you'll find it in everything from lingerie to blankets to medical bandages! ✨ 𝐀 𝐒𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐂𝐡𝐨𝐢𝐜𝐞: While not as eco-friendly as organic cotton, viscose rayon is certainly more sustainable than synthetic fabrics like polyester and nylon. Plus, it's incredibly comfortable to wear. But wait, there's more! 🤯 Viscose rayon is: ✦ 𝐁𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞 🌬️ ✦ 𝐄𝐚𝐬𝐲 𝐭𝐨 𝐝𝐲𝐞 🎨 ✦ 𝐃𝐫𝐚𝐩𝐞𝐬 𝐛𝐞𝐚𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐟𝐮𝐥𝐥𝐲 💃 𝐌𝐲𝐭𝐡𝐬 𝐁𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐝! 💥 ❌ Viscose rayon is NOT completely synthetic. ✅ It's a blend of natural and chemical materials. ✅ It's more sustainable than polyester and nylon. 𝐅𝐚𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐁𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐬, 𝐓𝐚𝐤𝐞 𝐍𝐨𝐭𝐞! ✍️ Viscose rayon is a game-changer for luxury fashion. It offers the substitute of silk at a fraction of the cost, making high-end designs more accessible to consumers. Plus, its versatility allows for endless creative possibilities. 𝐂𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐓𝐢𝐩𝐬: Dry cleaning is recommended. Never wring or dry in direct sunlight. ... Why Choose Recycled Polyester? Significantly Lower Water Consumption: Traditional nylon production (a common type of polyamide) can consume about 100 liters of water per kilogram due to its complex production processes. In contrast, our recycled polyester reduces water usage by up to 80% during production, primarily because it eliminates the dyeing process, which typically involves excessive water and harmful chemicals. Sublimation Printing Advantage: Our fabric allows for vibrant sublimation printing, which uses less water compared to conventional dyeing methods often used with polyamide fibers. This process not only conserves water but also avoids the use of harsh dyes, making it a safer choice for both the environment and your skin. #SustainableFashion #EcoFriendly #Bikini #Swimwear #VictorTêxteis
