We are investing £9.7m to tackle regional disparities across the UK. The funding will go to 17 projects aimed at ensuring everyone in the UK has a path to economic success and personal wellbeing, regardless of where they live. Professor Alison Park, head of UKRI’s Creating Opportunities and Improving Outcomes Strategic Theme, said: “Across the political spectrum, there is agreement that the regional disparities that exist in the UK do real social and economic damage. Policymakers and researchers have tried various ways of addressing those disparities, but we often don’t truly know how effective they are – or if there are better ways of achieving our goals. “The projects announced today will help to fill this knowledge gap by evaluating the effectiveness of these interventions. That way, we can ensure policymakers focus their efforts on the best ways to improve lives and opportunities across every part of the UK.” Take a look at the projects below👇🏻

Urgent action is needed by the UK government to tackle this issue. I am grateful to everyone working for education opportunities for all.
Fabulous. Be great to understand how we can ensure those that demonstrate effective interventions can be scaled and adapted for other regions to benefit.
So pleased to see these investments start work - gathering and assessing the evidence about whether a scheme designed to tackle an issue, is making a real difference, will help decision making in the future, as well as drive efficiency...
Of which how many are actually solid, manufacturing and achievable high-tech, feeding back real manufacturing, product or scientific benefit to the UK economy, science and engineering domains? Does ZERO ring a bell?
Great so see the UK focus - please do link with us at Public Health Wales, to explore transferrable learning across these hugely important and wide ranging topics.
This is a fantastic funding initiative that addresses some of the most pressing social issues facing the UK. I'm thrilled to be a recipient of this funding and excited to see this project through.
*Correction: The correct spelling for the project lead of 'Creating better opportunities in the south west through a growth-mindset-of opportunity intervention' in the image above should be Paul A. O'Keefe. Apologies for the mistake.
Such a great and important array of topics covered! If anyone would like to speak with the Benzo Research Project on harm reduction, or engaging young people and those with lived experience, please do reach out. We’d love to hear the research outcomes too🙌🏼
