Are you interested in Developing Research Leaders who are Fit for the Future? ▶ The 10th Annual Researcher Education and Development Scholarship (REDS) Conference will take place online on the 10 October 2024. ▶ The call for abstracts is now open with a submission deadline of Monday 13 May 2024, 5:00pm (GMT+1). https://lnkd.in/euZ7dgNd In the last decade, the sector has brought new focus to the consideration of leadership in research and the responsibilities of research leaders for creating a productive and positive research environment. This is supported by new national ‘people and teams’ strategies characterised by the desire to move away from individualistic, elitist and competitive leadership, encouraging more open, inclusive, team-focused, interdisciplinary, collegial and collaborative ways of leading. Being seen by others as ‘a leader’ may be sought or circumstantial, intentional, uncomfortable, or inevitable. Becoming, being, and viewing oneself as a ‘research leader’ can be experienced differently at an individual level. For some, it may be seen as a mark of promotion or esteem; for others, a proxy for gaining the freedom to explore research topics independently of other senior colleagues’ preferences. It may, for some, be seen as a specific job title or the natural progression of a particular career trajectory. For others it may be a title that is inaccessible. 🔍 NEW RESEARCH // What do responsible research partnerships look like across north-south countries? 🌎 The number of large-scale collaborative research initiatives between wealthier (global north) and developing (global south) countries is growing. But there's not much guidance on how to lead and manage these projects responsibly. Through RISE as a case study, 15 colleagues from Monash University, Fiji National University, and Universitas Hasanuddin explore some of the leadership challenges, and opportunities to come together, to implement research across countries and across disciplines. 💡 How can leaders navigate power dynamics across disciplines, partners, and locations? Congratulations to all our 2024 class students! Graduation is always bitter-sweet because it closes a chapter of an important milestone for you all, while opening the door to a new reality. Our graduate Laszlo Pinter, from Hungary said a few words that I shall treasure. It is an old saying, but it goes as follows: "Every ending is a new beginning. The journey goes on to new hights, so hold your heads up high and enjoy every single moment of the journey". And remember, the most beautiful aspect of the journey, is not the final destination, but all those "discovery" stops that you make along the way. We are proud of you all and with your permission, I would like to share a few messages from my opening speech: a) Remember, the world craves those who can not only analyze situations but also translate knowledge into action. b) Use your knowledge as a bridge for understanding. The world needs your innovative business solutions, your ethical leadership, and your ability to inspire others. Don't be afraid to challenge the status quo, to push boundaries, and to advocate for what you believe in. Remember, the most successful leaders are not just those with the most knowledge, but those who can inspire and empower others to share their own. And ladies and gentlemen, every day you have been at Geneva Business School, you have inspired us to continue pursuing excellence. If you are a secondary public school principal, you are invited to participate in a study exploring the behaviors, attitudes, and beliefs of middle and high public-school principals regarding the use of student voice as part of doctoral research at Notre Dame University of Maryland. This survey should take approximately 6 minutes to complete. Survey data will be used in a larger research study to determine how secondary principals use student voice and how this strategy supports their leadership.
