With another wildland fire start taking off in #KernCounty, it's important to highlight May as National Wildfire Awareness Month. Whether creating defensible space by clearing vegetation from within 100 feet of structures or formulating a solid wildfire evacuation plan, it's critical to be prepared if/when wildland fires occur. The safety of yourself, your family, your pets/livestock and your property depend on it. *This picture comes from ALERTCalifornia, a tool that can help the public, along with Utilities and government agencies, in monitoring high-risk fire areas during peak fire season. Absolutely beneficial to everyone having all these new technologies working together to change the trajectory of our annual wildfire challenges. Similar to how wildfire agencies use weather thresholds to pre-position resources at a ‘regional’ level to provide closest available resource to action initial attack fires in the landscape…home owners, municipalities, fire departments in our communities and private industry can utilize these new technologies at a ‘local’ level to trigger mitigation and response activities at a smaller scale and prevent new ignitions; catch inception fires with Ai supported IR detection, tanker drones and ground / aerial applied Citrotech. Pretreatment on evacuation routes too, we need these evac corridors to be safe beforehand. FYI: Citrotech is now available in Canada! 🇨🇦
The Corral Fire is forcing families to evacuate. The first major fire of the year in California. In the County of San Joaquin over the weekend, the Corral Fire burned SW of the City of Tracy. Ignited on May 30th, near the Carnegie State Vehicular Recreation Area. And spread rapidly toward the city, really taking off in the afternoon of the 1st. As of this post, it has burned 13,842 acres. If the Corral Fire is any indication, it's going to be a challenging season this year. Early detection AND intelligence of incidents at a landscape scale will help to mitigate these in the coming months. Thanks to the firefighters and emergency responders for acting swiftly and working to contain this fire Alameda County Fire Department California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE). 🔥 It’s a common misconception that most homes burn down from direct contact with wildfire flames or radiant heat, but in fact, the majority of structures are destroyed by wildfire embers - small burning pieces of debris that spit away from the wildfire. In the wind, embers can travel distances over a mile. For #WildfirePreparednessMonth, take a few minutes to learn about what you can do in and around your home to help protect against the threat of wildfires. #Wildfire #Wildfires #WildfireLitigation #WildfirePrepDay
