New friend OZZI REUSE is helping to reduce waste at Boston University ! BU uses the Ozzi reusable to-go containers as part of their dining program. Since BU launched their Choose to Reuse program in the GSU Food Hall in February of 2023, they have decreased the use of disposable containers by more than 78%. The legal obligation to offer #reusablepackaging has been in force in Europe for a year now, which represents a significant step towards sustainable #catering! 🌱 From the start of 2023, restaurants, bistros, cafés and delivery services will be obliged to offer takeaway food and drinks in environmentally friendly reusable packaging. This year, a lot has happened for us and the entire industry on this topic: 🤝 Sustainable #partnerships: We have worked closely with our partners such as Crafting Future to ensure that reusable packaging used is sustainable and environmentally friendly. These partnerships allow us to offer high-quality reusable containers in combination with our reusable integration that meet the highest ecological standards. 💰Deposit model in action: The #depositmodel has proven to be extremely effective in many canteens. Guests pay a deposit per bowl/cup. The deposit fees are set in the dashboard and are tied to the company. Loss-related costs can be covered by the deposit. Guests can easily decide in favour of or against a reusable container during the ordering process in the app. 🥗Deposit-free model for flexibility: For those who opt for the deposit-free model , we have built in flexibility. Guests have the option of using the reusable containers free of charge. If a reusable container is not returned within the specified period, a late fee is automatically debited via the payment method on file. The fee covers the costs of lost containers and also contributes to profits. A lot of positive feedback from canteen guests confirms that the efforts and sensitisation to environmental issues in company catering have been well received. From October 13 to October 19, 2024, join us in celebrating the 2024 Co-op Week! With the theme of “Innovating the Co-operative Way,” we will highlight co-operatives from across Canada and the innovative ways in which they help serve their communities! To showcase the innovation within the sector, CMC will be hosting three webinars to introduce you to co-operatives that think outside of the box. Each webinar will be a 45-minute presentation, followed by a 15-minute Q&A session. Arctic Co-operatives Limited — Innovating with an Integrated Sustainability Model On Tuesday, October 15th, at 1 p.m. EST Glenn Valiere, a representative of the Governance and Member Relations Team, will present how Arctic Co-operatives Limited innovates using the UN Sustainable Development Goals along with Indigenous models of sustainability. Arctic Co-operatives Limited is a service federation that is owned and controlled by over 30 community-based co-operative businesses that are located in Nunavut, Northwest Territories, Yukon and Saskatchewan. This federation was also the proud recipient of CMC’s 2022 Large Co-operative of the Year Award. Innovating One Meal at a Time with Radish Cooperative On Wednesday, October 16th, at 1 p.m. EST, Radish Cooperative, the winner of CMC’s 2023 Small Co-operative of the Year Award, will present how they created their innovative co-operative platform in Montreal, Quebec. Radish Cooperative is an online meal delivery technology co-operative offering technological solutions for the food service industry. Switch to Reusable with Retournzy On Thursday, October 17th, at 1 p.m. EST, Retournzy coop, the recipient of CMC’s 2024 Environmental Initiative of the Year Award, will present their unique journey in creating a co-operative that uses the circular economy model to offer a sustainable containers solution for the catering, event, corporate and institutional sectors.
