This Sunday the ECOSA team will be walking a 20 kilometre stretch of the River Itchen to help raise money for Empowering Elodie, a campaign to help our wonderful colleague’s eldest daughter Elodie who is living with Syndrome Without A Name (SWAN). We have chosen the Itchen Navigation because of the length it represents. Some otter are known to use 20 kilometres or more of river habitat so it seemed like a fitting distance to cover for us ecologists. In good ecology fashion this will be carried out in animal themed fancy dress of course! Have a read of Lucy’s post below and our fundraiser page to find out more. Yesterday the ECOSA team spent the day at the Old Sarum in Salisbury learning about grasslands and habitat indicator species, which also provided practice for the whole team on UKHab classification 🌱🪻 We covered a wide range of grasses and herbaceous species before surveying quadrats across the site to allow us to identify the grassland habitats present. The training was supplemented with discussions about how this impacts upon Biodiversity Net Gain assessments - so ice creams were in order to finish the day off!
