A solid-wood door like this (very heavy) would NOT be pushable with one hand, from a single track on the floor. However it is easily pushable from a hung track. Almost nothing about transport is Light. Also ground has INEFFICIENT bumps, curves, & hills, whereas high poles can be 'set' to level a track run. You can never be certain which way a road or roadbank, will veer, requiring constant driver 360° vigilance. With Overhead Track Suspended Load, gravity ALWAYS points the load in the same direction...Down. Many factories use overhead track for indoor transport because great loads become "human moveable". Yet, once outside, it is all ground-based vehicles. Just a swag, but I'd bet switching to suspended track transport alone, would yield 70% energy savings over current transport methods per lb, and adding Mag-Lev would get another 15-20%. ... Q: So why are we doing transport of heavy loads & people, from Ground or Water-Based supports at ALL? A: Because Big Oil WANTS Energy to be wasted. Same reason they mostly killed slightly more efficient Rail over to Cars & Trucks instead. ... A Department for Transport consultation on e-cycle (EAPC)s, including increased motor power and throttle functions has been launched today. Here is our position: 1. Throttles up to 4mph are already permitted. This needs to be more widely known & more models available as starting assistance is critical to enabling many #Disabled people to cycle. 2. We do not support increase of e-cycle motor power to 500W. This would increase risk to pedestrians and cyclists from heavier vehicles with higher accelerations. We have seen no evidence of any safety benefits from increased power. 3. We would support consultation into development of an e-moped/motorcycle category to enable use by, for example, delivery and pedicab riders. These vehicles should not be permitted to use shared spaces or cycle lanes due to their weights, sizes and accelerations.
