Some reflections after an epic week of customer meetings and interaction, with CDP as the main event: - A strong community and collaboration pretty much beat anything in our line of business - Our industry is facing unprecedented challenges, but also opportunities - Technology like optimization, simulation and machine learning are instrumental in meeting those challenges, and taking the opportunities, making for true AI in airline operations - It will all come to nothing though, unless we together address process and general change management, with at least the same focus as the technology
Last week we hosted our annual Development Partners conference in Gothenburg. Over 250 participants from airlines all around the globe joined us to network and to discuss the future of efficient and robust operations. It was great to see users from all types of operations meet and discuss topics like integrated OCC, planning for robust revenue, experience-based training and how to use AI in airline planning. "Make your hobby your job and you'll never have to work," says László Kenessey, who, in addition to his work as a Software License Manager at Lufthansa Systems Hungária, gives lectures to high school students on the history of Lufthansa Systems, aviation and the magical world around it. ✈ Most recently, he introduced the students of Bethlen Gábor Primary School and High School to the mysteries of aviation and airline industry, and the audience listened to his presentation with great interest. 👨🏼🎓🎒 This was also shown by the fact that they listened to his lecture without a word, with great interest, and at the end he could hardly answer all the many questions put to him, such as: Do we also develop software that controls the aircraft systems or only those that the company uses in the ground operations? 🛫 Do we use AI technology for development? Excited to wrap up my panels at the World Aviation Festival in Amsterdam! Both panels—NextGen Loyalty CX and Innovative Technologies Poised to Revolutionize Airline Operations—were met with outstanding engagement from global aviation clients. The discussions were rich with insights that will undoubtedly shape the future of the industry. From the NextGen Loyalty CX panel, we explored how AI and data-driven personalization are redefining loyalty programs, creating more targeted and seamless customer journeys. The rise of emotional loyalty was a key takeaway, highlighting the importance of fostering deeper connections with customers through AI-powered behavior tracking. In the Innovative Technologies panel, we discussed the acceleration of NDC adoption and its potential to transform the industry, alongside the growing interest in OneOrder, which promises to simplify the retailing and order management process for airlines. Though it took a while for the industry to embrace NDC, it is quite possible we will see faster adoption from here as airlines recognize its benefits. The conversation on GenAI adoption brought exciting examples like Alaska Airlines' 'Inspires' initiative, showcasing how generative AI can enhance customer experience. It’s clear that NDC and OneOrder are quickly becoming industry standards, and airlines are increasingly exploring AI-driven solutions to boost engagement, optimize operations, and stay competitive. #APATS2024 has kicked off this morning with a keynote address from Captain Adrian Amaladoss, Singapore Airlines and Captain Ashim Mittra, IndiGo. Amaladoss started the session looking at trends in the region and there's lots of positive news, with revenues up, aircraft deliveries up and an increased use of SIMs - with this however comes a growing demand for recruitment. Mittra stated that ‘At any one point in time there are over 700 pilots in training within IndiGo - running over 2000 flights every day and a flight taking off every 43 seconds globally, the current recruitment need is predicted to double this decade!' How are we going to fullfill this requirement? As pilots are resourced globally it's hard to keep an oversight and standardisation, and with such high costs of training we need joint collaboration to recruit pilots and sort out pathways for financing. Mittra's view is current training is not predictable, and as fleets grow, we need to change the format of training - MPL (multi-pilot licence), in his view, is the way forward. Furthermore, as the cockpit continues to get younger, we need to adopt more diverse learning styles via strong standard operating procedures. A consistent, mitigated risk and and inclusive CBTA approach should allow for a more agile future - resulting in Mittra's motto 'Safety Beyond Standards'. #aviation #training #MPL #generationz #recruitment #airline
