Cybersecurity regulations could face an uphill battle after the Supreme Court's recent Chevron ruling. A series of damaging supply chain hacks, breaches and an epidemic of ransomware has spurred an effort in the White House to raise the cybersecurity bar across the public and private sector in recent years. Much of that work has come in the form of new or expanded federal regulations, particularly within sectors of critical infrastructure where the government’s rulemaking authorities are often strongest. The landscape of federal cybersecurity rules is shifting, however, after the recent Supreme Court decision that could significantly impact how agencies implement and enforce cybersecurity regulations. What might this mean for your organization's compliance strategy? Dive deeper into the implications on Cyberscoop: https://lnkd.in/eUDxhKp6 #Cybersecurity #CyberRegulations #ECS

As cybersecurity professionals, it's paramount we recognize the progression toward establishing clear "reasonable cybersecurity" standards. The latest framework, developed by the Center for Internet Security, outlines measures that significantly mitigate data breaches while addressing legal ambiguities. This is pivotal for state and local governments striving to enhance their cybersecurity posture and reduce litigation risks. States like Ohio, Utah, and Connecticut are already paving the way with safe harbor laws, offering immunity to organizations that meet specified cybersecurity benchmarks. This not only incentivizes robust security practices but also builds greater trust among consumers. The future is steering toward a unified federal standard, facilitating better compliance and safeguarding sensitive data. #CyberSecurity #DataProtection #StateAndLocalGov #SafeHarborLaws #CyberInsurance #CyberHygiene #PrivacyProtection Read the original article: https://lnkd.in/eUCZwvza

Market forces alone are not enough to protect critical infrastructure, according to a recent study by the National Security Telecommunications Advisory Committee. The study suggests that the government should provide incentives and education to support this protection. Furthermore, the committee believes the Office of the National Cyber Director should protect companies from liability when they share information regarding cyber threats. This is an important step towards ensuring the security of our national infrastructure.
