This Pride Month, we want to take the opportunity to celebrate the individuality of everyone, whether they're a UKFCU member, UKFCU employee or anybody else. We are built on community, and that's why we're proud to recognize the LGBTQIA+ community! Professional Learning & Development; Equity, Inclusion, Belonging etc.; Leadership; Education; Capacity Building
A meaningful Pride month at your organization: Recognizing the importance of equity and inclusion and matching that recognition with action to improve and address gaps. An opportunity to reflect on how your organization interacts with, engages and empowers the LGBTQIA+ community. A moment to take stock and consider updating your diversity statement. A real and measurable effort towards reaching this often marginalized community through focused programming and targeted campaigns.

As Pride month comes to a close, let's celebrate the incredible impact and influence of LGBTQIA+ leaders in higher education. 🌈 While we celebrate progress, the fight for true equality continues - and should continue all year long. Many LGBTQIA+ students (and staff, faculty and leadership) still face discrimination and a lack of support. We have a responsibility to create positive change by implementing inclusive hiring practices, challenging biases, and fostering safe and affirming spaces for everyone to thrive. Learn more about the work of LGBTQIA+ leaders, and how they continue to show that visibility matters: https://buff.ly/3ITb7Ho

International #pridemonth As we see rainbow, different campaigns rolled out across platforms, highlighting the values and contribution the more diverse people can bring to our society, to our workplaces; I’d like to also acknowledge my appreciation to allies and remind myself the importance of #allyship, and big thanks to: - those who do not need to experience hardship to practice compassion. - those who have been exposed to inequity and inequality, being able to heal and apply empathy to others. - those acknowledging privileges and utilising their platforms to uplift others. - those who are open to learn and grow with expansive diversity. - those who had a change of heart and continuously work on themselves With the hectic world we live in, with all these traumatic events unfolding around us, it’s easy to not notice efforts of others, trying to make change. Minorities wouldn’t survive and thrive without our allies. Our voices can only be amplified when we become allies to one another Inclusion only works effective when we include our allies #lgbtiqa #CALM #CALD #inclusion

To anyone interested in developing resources to promote #socialjusticeeducation, I would highly recommend this framework from Team Eltonix! (NB: Authentic language might include instances of swearing :)).
As promised, Sarah & Sea have recorded their IATEFL 2024 talk: Stop Including Us! Arguments Against Inclusion & For Diversity. Current initiatives to support LGBTQIA+ students are overwhelmingly designed around inclusion principles which encourage deficit-based interpretations of how queer students experience school. Such models elicit sympathy and tolerance and therefore position students as eternal victims existing on the periphery of school life. We propose our social justice framework to effectively disrupt hetero-/gender-normative practices and celebrate diversity in our classrooms. Many thanks to IATEFL for selecting us to talk at the conference, and for all the participants who came to our session. We would like to make this available for all who were not able to attend, and hope you find it useful. #socialjusticeeducation #socialjustice #diversity #equity #education #teacherdevelopment #eltonix #lgbtqia
