Kimberly Elenberg, director of Data and Mission Partner Sharing at ECS, knows a thing or two about helping key decision makers use all the data at their disposal to make informed, data-driven decisions. Kimberly is laser-focused on instilling a more strategic data mindset at the senior leadership level across the government, as well as developing shared mission partner environments, integrating their capabilities wherever possible, and streamlining the use of data to drive mission success. We sat down with Kimberly to discuss her role at ECS and some of her past roles within the DoD, the impact of her work for everyday citizens, and how ECS stands apart as a systems integrator. Helping Defence unlock the potential of AI, automation, integration & hybrid cloud to accelerate digital transformation and security uplift.
Brigadier General Mark Miles at IBM #SPADE2024 Canberra, Hyatt. Opened the morning by exploring the concept of decision superiority. Defined as “the ability to make better decisions faster”, he provided insight into three key concepts .. The ‘ability’ ... ‘better’, and ..‘faster’. First, the ‘ability’: Primarily, the ability to communicate. In terms of a peer adversary, this is not typically unique, and we expect all sides to have similar communications services at near parity. Better – This is unique; and only one side will be ‘best’. They key is how to best orchestrate and present the data, so that better decisions are intentionally architected to be better .. and on the battlefield this is typically, supported by an active ‘data fabric’. Faster – This is also unique, and only one side will be ‘fastest’. First, only possible if you have solved the data fabric problem. Second, we want to leverage technology for speed of analysis. And, these tool are evolving, and likely still have the most to contribute to rapid decision making. However, these tools must be part of a continual improvement cycle, otherwise you won’t stay ‘best’ and ‘fastest’.

I still find this series of videos a great crash course on datacenters. The datacenter industry continues to explode and needs talent from all walks of life, all backgrounds, all experience levels to construct, operate and maintain! And as Carrie Goetz has said many times, you just need to be curious and have a continuous learning mindset. #vetsintech #seabees #militarytransition #veterans Infrastructure Masons

A few weeks ago I had a chance to listen this talk: https://lnkd.in/d5QQzZ9J by Derek Collison. It was such an inspirational presentation. The "aha moment" for me was when Derek mentioned that we should invert our current focus from: "workloads, data, connectivity" to "connectivity, data, workloads". The focus on connectivity and the emphasis on message passing and pub/sub reminded me of the Object Oriented description given by Alan Kay here: https://lnkd.in/dhdvtPYh which also emphasizes message passing. I highly recommend watching the presentation, it might give a different perspective on current state of affairs and maybe help you challenge the status-quo.

APIs in July! 🤖✈️🏝️ https://lnkd.in/e6kJdcDM We're pleased to announce the public release of the DAF API Reference Architecture. This has been developed in conjunction with numerous technical stakeholders across the DAF and aims to start a conversation around what Enterprise service support for APIs need to be. This is going to drive requirements into our ICAM solution, in part answer how we defend application flows, and provide support for micro-services architectures across the DAF. It also seeks to provide a cohesive solution for accessing data from our major data platforms as well as make it easy to integrate with software produced and provided by the DAF. It's modeled after how major technology vendors have sought to tackle the challenging landscape of fielding hundreds of technology components built by different teams that all need to integrate with each other. It is a part of the natural growth of sophistication that organizations undertake as they mature and deliver capabilities that need to work together as a cohesive whole. This journey isn't easy, but we are blessed to have commercial partners and products available to us that help with parts of the whole of the solution. We're also interested in the feedback along the lines of "if you just think of the solution X way, this product fits". We're not accepting formal proposals at this time, and it should not impact work currently underway, but we do want greater awareness of what is out there. We're interested in your feedback! I have a talk about this (including your feedback) at DAFITC this year, and we'd love if you could get any comments back to us within the next month. We'll be publishing a roadmap and a strategy doc to accompany this, once we're more certain that it's going to answer the needs of the different communities it was designed to serve. -Jay
It is with great excitement that the Department of the Air Force released version 1.0 of the API Reference Architecture and Roadmap. This publication includes an architecture that describes the technical "what" that we are hoping to build for the Enterprise alongside a high level roadmap that describes in broad strokes "how" the DAF will pursue an Enterprise API solution. To better understand the industry best practices and capabilities available to enable an API solution at the scale our warfighters need, we are asking for your feedback. While we plan to take feedback at any point through this process, we would appreciate early feedback by mid-August so that we can incorporate it into discussions at DAFITC. The best place to submit substantive feedback is through the Contact Form on the SAF/CN website. Please select Chief Technology Officer (CTO) as the recipient and send us a message using the subject API Reference Architecture & Roadmap. The Contact Form can be found here: https://lnkd.in/eiiBWJYM We plan on incorporating your feedback into a second version of both the Reference Architecture and a detailed Roadmap 2.0. We look forward to the collaboration in support of the mission.
