Never take PTO on a Demo Day! How would you feel if an AE took a (non-emergency) PTO day- with a Fortune 500 meeting on the books? This makes me think about the grind in the kitchen. Managing a kitchen has helped me form a certain amount of grit, discipline, and dedication needed for the sales industry. - Scheduling conflicts leave you working doubles (open to close) - Dish person calls in and you gotta finish the night in the dish pit - Gotta stay 3 hours extra to finish inventory - There is no leaving until the kitchen is clean - Someone calls in on your day off, you gotta get it covered or cover it yourself In sales, we gotta show up just the same. Meetings are all we have in this world and we lose deals and opportunities if we don't show up. Here are my 4 reasons to skip a sales meeting: - Sick (bedridden) - Family Emergency - Internet is down - WWIII Aside from these 4, I am making that meeting, regardless. ~SaaSy Chef *Any crazy PTO stories? Vacation Leave Entitlement In 2024, Employees are entitled to 192 hours of Vacation Leave entitlement and another 48 hours of Vacation Leave in lieu of Public Holidays falling during the weekend. Public Holidays falling during a weekday are either to be added to Vacation Leave over and above those explained above or paid as Public Holiday entitlement. Employees are entitled to all the above-mentioned Public Holidays even though they are not rostered to work. When employees are scheduled to work on a Public Holiday they should be paid as explained above in addition to another rate for the hours worked or at twice the normal rates for all hours worked depending on the Wage Regulation Order they are regulated with (if no Collective Agreement is in place).

One of the interview questions Kwini Reed asks at her restaurants is: Do you take vacations? Here's why: If vacations are important to someone, they won't get upset when someone else requests a week off. They'll empathize and figure out how to work around it - so the employee gets the time off they need. The top 3 benefits that restaurant employees report they want are: 🌴 Paid time off 🏥 Health insurance 📈 Retirement savings / 401k Staff meals or post-shift drinks have traditionally been the beginning and the end of any benefits. But as the restaurant industry evolves, employees demand the benefits of the traditional 9-to-5 job. It's a culture shift, but one the industry must embrace. If you don't have the means right now, consider the basics. It could be as simple as flexibility with schedules or a few days of paid vacation.

Can employees take time off whenever they want? The BC Employment Standards lays out different forms of leaves an employee can take, some are paid while other are unpaid. Statutory holidays and sick days are the most common but what happens when an employee asks for a week off for vacation during your busiest time, are you allowed to deny the request? The answer is yes but there’s so much more to consider when responding. -is this a one off for this employee? -could you possibly get by for a few days but not the whole week? -could the employee quit because of this response? -would it look like favouritism if you did allow it? Having a strong vacation policy can help eliminate most of these requests around vacation time off.
