It’s 95% humidity right now, and it feels like 86°F. Training back here is no joke!! 🥵 Back in Canada, I was crushing 6:55, 6:57 per mile for my intervals. But here in Florida? I’m struggling to hit 7:20. My mind started to spiral, questioning my training, wondering why my body wasn’t keeping up. But this is just part of the challenge!! It's all part of the #zeroto100 mindset, guys. We don’t quit when it gets tough. Watching the London marathon from the comfort of my sofa today brings back so many memories and emotions.   I have run the London marathon twice and it taught me some valuable lessons.   The marathon taught me about motivation. When my motivation dipped during my training, I reminded myself why I was doing this which helped me put one foot in front of the other when I felt I couldn’t run any further.   It taught me about resilience and how to adapt when my training wasn’t going according to plan.   It taught me how to listen to my body and mind, when to push through and, just as importantly, when to rest and take care of myself.   It taught me the importance of setting goals and working out a plan to achieve those goals.   It taught me to trust in a process which had been developed by many people before me.   It taught me to take a leap of faith and believe in myself.   Crossing the finish line of the London marathon gave me the biggest sense of achievement I’ve ever experienced.   It took months of planning and hard work, but I’ll never forget how elated I felt when that finisher’s medal was put round my neck. It really was a life-changing experience.   Good luck to everyone running today.   Enjoy every minute.   It really will be one of the greatest days of your life. #LondonMarathon2024

Point of personal privilege: Today, I conquered my first half marathon! I wanted to run my first half in the City of New Haven because it’s one of the most important places in my life story. Months of training, early mornings/late nights and determination all led to this day. It’s amazing what you can achieve when you commit to a goal and push through the tough times. This journey has taught me that no challenge is too big when you take it one step at a time. Another Marathon complete! It's in the books. The weather was great for me. 54 degrees, cloudy, and light rain at times. The rain was more steady in the last 5 miles, and the wind picked up. Did it turn out the way I wanted? Well, no. My quads were blasted by mile 17. The last 9 miles were horrible and painful. But I finished. Final time 3:50. Not the time I wanted. Not even close. I was 15 minutes off my mark. Why did I fail? I have no idea. I did all the right things. I trained well enough. I had a nutrition plan. I put in the miles. I prepared meticulously. I was strong and aerobically fit. I was ready. But every marathon runner knows this: Sometimes, you just can't predict what's going to happen on race day. And you have to roll with the punches. Whatever happens. Sounds cliche, but it's true. But you know what the best part was? Being with family. We experienced this event together. That was the plan. Whatever happened and however it turned out, we did it together. At the end of the day, the times, qualifications for Boston, and expectations of goals are not really that important. It was the experience. We had stories to tell afterward. It was the moments that will turn into great memories. And I'll try again sometime. When I'm able to walk normally again, of course. I'm not sure when or where. There's always another race. But I'll be back again. What goals are you working on? Whatever your goals are, do them with others. Support each other. 🏃 Paris Marathon Conquered! 🏃 Hey everyone, I'm still buzzing after absolutely TACKLING my first Marathon, can you believe it?! #26.2 #42.2 This wasn't just a race, it was a five-month journey of epic self-discovery. Turns out "Learning to run SLOWLY" is a legit skill, who knew? But seriously, this whole experience pushed me to become a lifelong learner in a whole new way. Training meant: Resilience:  Weekend runs take FOREVER (but hey, great views along the way! ️) Body Awareness: Slow and steady wins the race (and lowers your heart rate, win-win!). Mental Grit:  Rain🌧️ or shine☀️, gotta lace up those shoes and get out there! And let me tell you, that mental grit came in handy! After 30km, strong cramps started kicking in ⚡⚡, and to top it off, the final 7km were all uphill 📈(not exactly what you want!). But I dug deep, focused on my mental strength , and willed myself to the finish line 🏁. Sure, I didn't hit my ideal time (4h40 vs my 4h15 target), but for a first marathon, the only goal that truly matters is crossing that finish line 🏁 !! The real magic of this journey? Sharing it with my incredible colleagues, Ziad Hachache, Nicolas Jeannée, Thierry Carneiro ! High fives ✋, shared struggles , what a TEAM! This is just the beginning, you can bet on it. Knowledge alone has little value unless it is applied. Simply acquiring information is not enough. Imagine having a tool but not knowing how to use it. In the same way, the skills we develop only sharpen through practice. Our abilities must be nurtured, and the best way to do that is by applying them whenever possible. Climbing a tree may be different from climbing the corporate ladder, but the principles of balance and perseverance apply to both. Likewise, swimming may differ from navigating challenging situations, but remembering how to swim helps us stay afloat and move forward. 🚣𝗘𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗸𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗻𝘁𝘀. No matter how busy work is, it’s essential to wind down. We all have our kicks – how do you forget about work and relax? For 𝗦𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝗘𝗻𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗿 𝗘𝗺𝗿𝗲 𝗞𝗮𝗿𝗮𝗼𝘀𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗼𝗴𝗹𝘂, rowing is more than just a hobby. It’s an intense physical and mental battle coupled with the beauty of being on the water. He started 𝗿𝗼𝘄𝗶𝗻𝗴 in high school in Turkey and continued in Delft, where he joined two rowing clubs. 💯Rowing is a sport that demands 𝟭𝟬𝟬% 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗶𝘁𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗺𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸. If the crew doesn’t stick to the plan, you won’t move an inch. Emre trains eight to 10 times a week, eight months a year. He participates in long distance races in winter and side-by-side races over two-kilometre straight in spring. He has faced challenges such as injuries and racing alone in a single scull, but he has also enjoyed memorable experiences such as setting a world record in a ten-person boat. Emre says that rowing has taught him many valuable skills that he applies to his work as a structural engineer. He says: “Rowing is a very analytical sport. You have to 𝗺𝗲𝗮𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲, 𝗮𝗱𝗷𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝘁𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗻𝗶𝗾𝘂𝗲, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗼𝗽𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗶𝘀𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗴𝘆. You also have to communicate well with your teammates and coach, and be flexible and adaptable to different situations. These are all skills that I use in my engineering projects.” Emre also appreciates the social aspect of rowing. He says: “I have met many amazing people through rowing. Some of them are my best friends. We support each other, have fun together, and share our passion for the sport. Rowing is a great way to 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗻𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗽𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲 from different backgrounds and cultures.” Emre has a lot on his bucket list, from the Dutch national championships to the Olympic Games. He says: “It’s about having a common goal and not giving up, even if you feel your lungs burning and your muscles hurting. Rowing is my passion and my escape from work.
