We're proud of our PowerFlex team, who successfully participated in last month's demand response events in California, helping customers monetize their onsite battery energy storage systems while propping up the state’s beleaguered power grid. A heatwave that sent temperatures soaring into the triple digits in some parts of the state prompted the California Energy Commission (CEC) to trigger four demand response events during the week of July 8 as part of its Demand Side Grid Support (DSGS) program. BREAKING NEWS. Today, New York's Public Service Commission (including two fantastic new commissioners!) discussed New York's newly established Grid of the Future proceeding. The objective of this proceeding is to "unlock innovation and investment to deploy flexible resources – such as DERs and virtual power plants (VPPs) - to achieve our clean energy goals at a manageable cost and at the highest levels of reliability." Music to my ears. Solar + storage industry, are you ready?! The Commission directed DPS Staff to conduct a "Grid Flexibility Study (Study) to produce, assess, and report on the present status and future potential for flexible resources in New York’s electric system" by November 15, 2024. Here is the full order in case you want to get into the weeds: https://lnkd.in/eW4wvMX4

We talk a lot about how solar power — backed up by battery systems — help people live more powerfully by keeping them free and safe from high bills and blackouts. What’s true for Texans is also true for the Texas grid. Texas will soon be #1 in battery storage, and we’re already the nation’s leader in grid-scale solar. That’s because solar and storage offer the same benefits to the grid as they do for homeowners: Texas can soak up solar power all day long, then use that electricity when we need it — especially during brutally hot summer evenings as the sun goes down. Read more about how solar and storage are transforming the grid, and imagine what they could do for you and your family: https://lnkd.in/gScRB3nV #txenergy #txlege #batterystorage #cleanenergy #sustainability #texasgrid

📰 Great new op-ed in Utility Dive by Americans for a Clean Energy Grid (ACEG)'s Christina Hayes and Electric Power Supply Association's Todd Snitchler: "The goal of energy policy must be a reliable, clean and cost-effective power system that serves all Americans, from generation to transmission to distribution. Achieving that outcome will require several things: more generation — and more pipelines — to power the growing economy, and more wires to deliver power from where it is generated to load centers. "Co-optimizing the use of all our energy facilities is a key component of a successful energy system expansion. Policy must reflect a both/and approach, not an either/or scenario where one “side” wins and the other must lose." https://lnkd.in/et4nphdY

Growing electricity demand is putting pressure on Nevada’s grid. The solution to this problem? Virtual Power Plants! VPPs can increase energy reliability and affordability in Nevada, help the state meet its clean energy goals, and create new jobs in the energy sector. My team and I at Advanced Energy United are excited to present a report that highlights the important role VPPs will play in a clean energy future and urges Nevada to further integrate these plants into their future development plans. Learn more about VPPs and read the report here: https://lnkd.in/gqVhQAbZ

As we anticipate another record-breaking summer, the critical role of energy storage in maintaining #GridReliability and managing costs becomes evident. Last year was the hottest on record, and forecasts predict this summer will be just as extreme or hotter. The EU’s Copernicus ECMWF reported that February 2024 was the hottest February on record, reflecting the ongoing trend of rising temperatures. This surge in heat leads to increased electricity demand, straining our power grid and highlighting the urgent need for #RenewableEnergy and storage solutions. A prime example of effective energy storage is the partnership between Energy Vault, Wellhead Electric Company, Inc., and WPOWER. In September 2022, we announced the deployment of a significant #EnergyStorage system in Stanton, California. This project, one of Southern California’s largest, features a capacity of 68.8 MW (275.2 MWh) and utilizes Energy Vault’s #VaultOS™, which allowed for rapid commissioning, troubleshooting, and timely completion of all grid compliance testing required by the local regulated utility Completed in just four months in September 2023, the Stanton Battery Energy Storage System (SBES) set a new industry benchmark. It achieved full operational status rapidly and exceeded performance expectations during the record-breaking #heatwave of July 2023. This successful implementation underscores the importance of strategic investments in energy storage. By storing electricity during off-peak times and discharging it during peak demand, we can enhance grid stability, avoid blackouts, and support the transition to #RenewableEnergy. Energy storage is essential not only for addressing the #ClimateCrisis but also for ensuring a reliable and cost-effective power supply. As we face rising temperatures and increased electricity demand, the need for innovative storage solutions will continue to grow. Learn more about the SBES and our software that enables our customers to unlock the value of energy storage solutions by optimizing grid integration continuously as use cases evolve over time: https://hubs.la/Q02yDd6M0 Read more about the summer ahead from CNET: https://hubs.la/Q02yD8wt0 #GridReliability #RenewableEnergy #Decarbonization #EnergyStorageNews #Renewables #BatteryStorage
