We are celebrating the success of our Pathways to Tech participants! Amber Price, who was a member of Cohort 7, experienced a layoff as an IT Specialist in 2023. Fast forward to March of 2024: Amber secured a new opportunity as the Development and Operations Manager/Fundraiser at the Birmingham Education Foundation. Amber expressed gratitude for the Pathways to Tech program for helping her along her journey, “I am excited because Pathways gave me a refresher on how to work with coding and achieve a new learning curve by being exposed to Apple products and app development. This opportunity with Birmingham Ed gives me a chance to combine my passion for business with my tech skills and use them in the nonprofit sector.” Let’s celebrate Amber’s inspiring journey! #LearnWithEdFarm #edTech #PathwaystoTech #careerexploration #tech #blacksintech #WeCultivateChange #apple #coding

Passionate about bridging the gap between #ComputerScience education and real-world innovation | ED & Founder at Code Your Dreams
We're thrilled to announce the upcoming Code Together Day in Chicago, an event dedicated to fun, learning, and empowerment for parents, caretakers, and their children. Did you know.... ❗Women are 30% less likely than men to receive a callback for a tech job interview. ❗The tech industry sees women 65% more likely to face layoffs than their male counterparts. ❗Caregiving duties impact working women 5-8 times more than men, affecting career progression. ❗Women in leadership are twice as likely to be mistaken for junior employees compared to men. ❗About 56% of women in tech leave their careers mid-way, not due to job dissatisfaction but because of unequal opportunities and a significant gender pay gap. These statistics are a stark reminder of the challenges women, parents and caretakers face in the tech industry. Code Together Day by Code Your Dreams aims to address these issues head-on by providing a supportive community, resources, and inspiration. This special day is more than just an opportunity to explore the world of technology – it's a platform to address critical issues in the tech industry and foster a more inclusive future. During this day, we're excited to host a panel of inspirational parents who are making waves in tech and entrepreneurship. They'll share their secrets to balancing life's demands and discuss the struggles they've faced in their journeys. This candid conversation promises to be a source of motivation and insights for all attendees. Recognizing the unique challenges parents face in entering and navigating the tech industry, Code Together Day will offer valuable career resources and workshop activities. Whether it's dealing with career gaps or juggling caretaking responsibilities, our goal is to provide tools and guidance to help you succeed. But we can't forget about the kiddos! While parents engage in these informative sessions, kids won't be left out! We've planned a host of exciting coding activities to keep them entertained and educated. It's a perfect way for kids to dive into the world of technology and coding in a fun, interactive environment. Chicago tech companies, are you in?! We're actively seeking sponsors and partners to make this day extra special for our parents and caretakers. We aim to pamper and celebrate them, creating a memorable and meaningful experience. If you're interested in supporting this event, please reach out to me directly at brianne@codeyourdreams.org or connect with me on LinkedIn. Companies interested in purchasing bulk tickets for employees are also encouraged to contact us. Ready to be a part of this transformative experience? Parents and caretakers, you can sign up along with your kids at Code Together Day. Let's create a brighter, more inclusive future in tech together! Big thank you to TeamWorking by TechNexus for hosting this incredible event! https://lnkd.in/gwtXUuT2 #Innovation #Chicago #ParentsinTech #CodeTogetherDay #CodeYourDreams

Code Club volunteer Leon Maritz sees first-hand how important it is to get kids interested and involved in tech early on. He spoke to Louisa Taylor at at Canterbury Tech about what he's noticed: "The confidence to try changes on a dime over the space of a few short years." Leon remarked that while eight year old students are happy to give coding a go, at eleven many will turn down the chance to try—because it is unfamiliar and sounds hard. Introducing opportunities to learn early is crucial! Here are two ways that people can help to make these opportunities happen: 💻 Giving devices (less than 10 years old with a working power cable) to RAD to be recycled and used by students who otherwise wouldn't have access. 🗒Volunteering to help upskill teachers in digital technologies so they can confidently deliver the curriculum and also establish a Code Club branch at their school. If you're in a place to donate devices or have the skills to mentor teachers and become part of the Code Club mahi, please get in touch! Read more:

As I look back on the path that has led me to where I am today, I'm filled with gratitude for the opportunities that have shaped my journey, particularly the support and education I received from Unloop. Participating in their program while incarcerated was a turning point in my life, offering not just coding skills but a vision for what my future could be. The moment I stepped into the world of coding with Unloop, it wasn't just about learning to code; it was about opening a door to new possibilities, overcoming challenges, and breaking down barriers that once seemed insurmountable. The support didn't stop upon my release; it intensified, proving that Unloop's commitment to its students extends far beyond the prison walls. Today, as the CEO of Victory Code, I'm honored to collaborate with Unloop, the very program that played a pivotal role in my own transformation. Together, we're launching the next Victory Code Bootcamp in May, specifically designed for formerly incarcerated individuals in Washington(formerly incarcerated women of color are highly encouraged to apply). This initiative is more than just a coding bootcamp; it's a testament to the power of transformation and the belief that everyone deserves the opportunity to rewrite their story. I'm excited to not only contribute to Unloop's mission but to also provide a platform for others to grow, learn, and embark on their own journeys of transformation. This collaboration is my way of giving back, paying it forward, and hopefully inspiring others to do the same. To everyone who's supported me, believed in me, and contributed to my journey: thank you. Let's continue to make a difference, one line of code at a time. For more information on the Victory Code Bootcamp or to join us on this journey, please feel free to reach out. Together, we can code our way to victory. What sparked your love for community ? Last week I was challenged to effectively word my WHY. Why am I in business, why be a social entrepreneur? Truth is, there is no one defining moment as a reason, rather a collection of moments that reinforce why Community is so important to me. My love for technology started when I was a child, constantly video gaming, problem-solving, interacting with new technology with my dad, who just happened to be a chief IT in Navy. I had the privilege to grow and learn with tech as a staple in our household. Simply put as technology advanced, so did I. Equal to my love for technology was my love for education, I worked in several community based agencies such as nonprofits and schools holding titles as school counselor, college advisor, teacher etc. Technology was a still prevalent need. I found it hard in each of those situations to effectively teach and/or reach the community due to the lack of tech education/resources available to families. What I found during this time was a collection of false promises to our community. From Schools with mission statements that felt performative to the community to nonprofits missing the mark on creating effective impact with their chosen communities due to the absence of technology education and scalable programming. In each area I stepped into I created some sort of technology education program/implementation to supplement what they weren't being provided. But I'm one person working within the confines of a system , this was just a Band-Aid to the issue. I started my business to help restructure the face of social enterprises through data driven impactful programming and build healthy relationships between those enterprises and technology to affect the community at large. To date Rebrand Land has successfully rebranded over 50 nonprofit organizations through impact driven program and curriculum development and technology implementation. Through our efforts, clients have won millions of dollars in grant funding for their programs and organizations. We seek to amplify our impact by bringing the RebrandLand Community Innovation Center to every deserving community that will host magnitude of community based innovation programs and foster a love of creativity. We believe that community is currency , and that innovation is power keeping communities thriving. Rebrandinnovate.com
