On July 24, the Department of Education (DoEd) proposed new regulations, including a rule that prohibits asynchronous distance learning in clock-hour programs participating in Title IV financial aid. To qualify for Title IV aid under this new rule, online courses will need to meet two requirements: ➡ The courses must have instructor-initiated, regular and substantive interaction with students. ➡ Education institutions must record the last date of attendance for students who drop, withdraw, or fail an online course. To ensure continued equitable access to asynchronous distance education, we encourage all schools, students, and individuals who could be impacted by this proposed rule change to share their comments by August 23, 2024.
