Unlike a conventional X-ray that produces a flat picture, a CT scan creates numerous images or "slices" that are then compiled by a computer to form a 3D picture. This allows doctors to examine internal organs, bones, and soft tissues in much greater detail than traditional X-rays. 𝐇𝐞𝐫𝐞'𝐬 𝐚 𝐛𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐤𝐝𝐨𝐰𝐧 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐤𝐞𝐲 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐨𝐧𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬: 𝐂𝐚𝐭𝐡𝐨𝐝𝐞: A heated filament that emits electrons. 𝐀𝐧𝐨𝐝𝐞: A rotating target made of tungsten, which interacts with the electrons to produce X-rays. 𝐅𝐨𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐒𝐩𝐨𝐭: The area on the anode where electrons hit, determining the size and intensity of the X-ray beam. CT X-ray tubes often have multiple focal spot sizes for different imaging needs. 𝐅𝐢𝐥𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐬: These help shape the X-ray beam and reduce patient radiation dose. During a CT scan, the X-ray tube rotates around the patient while the table they are lying on moves steadily through the scanner. The X-ray beam passes through the body, with tissues absorbing X-rays at different rates.
