This paper provides an excellent perspective on the convergence of IT, OT, and IIoT technologies. With over two decades of experience in the utility industry, I find its insights particularly relevant given the significant transformations occurring across the entire value chain. From my perspective, the industry is facing unprecedented changes: ⚡ Generation landscape: Driven by advancements in renewable energy and emerging technologies such as SMRs. 🔌 Transmission and Distribution: The growing demand for a smarter, more efficient grid with the sensorization of networks. 🌍 Customer-centric initiatives: Focus on demand-side management, energy efficiency, demand response, and EV management. The paper’s detailed exploration of use cases, along with the Assess, Build, Scale, and Run (ABSR) approach, offers practical and actionable strategies for implementing these technologies. Moreover, the section addressing the challenges associated with these migrations is well-written and resonates deeply with the current industry landscape. #EnergyTransition #SmartGrid #IntelligentIndustry Capgemini EngineeringCapgemini Energy Transition & Utilities Nisar AHAMADShashi KapoorRanjeet VaishnavRajneesh (Raj) K.Eric HelinMichael TettambelElfije LemaitreBrenda HeathBill BrooksClaire GothamJason AmesPaul ShoemakerRyan WhittamDr. Andrea NuesserBrian GarrisonStewart CrymbleFrederic DabeSaurabh GargRupak PatraFabrice ROBERTJames ForrestMichael LewisRene Kerkmeester

AI requires a significant amount of energy, and the processing power needed for AI is continually increasing. It is evident that Malaysia is set to become a top preferred destination for data centers in ASEAN. Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) has introduced the Green Lane Pathway to facilitate the rapid setup of data centers, reducing the connection time for electricity supply from 36-48 months to just 12 months. This initiative has significantly boosted the demand for energy. According to TNB's latest Annual Report, there are still 63 applications for electricity supply connections from data centers, representing a maximum demand of 8.2 GW, which remain uncompleted. This substantial backlog underscores the growing energy needs of the digital economy. I foresee a bright future for Malaysia's digital economy, supported by robust infrastructure and reliable energy availability. The strategic initiatives by TNB and the increasing interest from data centers will undoubtedly drive Malaysia to a leading position in the digital revolution in the region. region.https://https://lnkd.in/g-wk6yCA #Solar #AI #DataCenter

Private Cloud CTO at Rackspace Technology | Helping Organisations Transform And Embrace Sustainable Operations with Cloud Technology | Green Energy Transition | Digital Transformation
Are energy companies truly reaping the benefits of digital transformation? The promise of AI, edge computing, and cloud tech in the energy sector is enticing with optimised operations, improved efficiency, and reduced costs on the path to net zero. Yet, the reality is complex. Cloud adoption journeys vary widely across the industry: ☁️ Some companies race ahead, especially newer, cloud-native organisations ☁️ Others face hurdles with data sharing, legacy systems, or resistant partners ☁️ Even traditionally cloud-shy sectors like nuclear are now embracing the change But challenges persist. Underestimated costs, project durations, and the risk of vendor lock-in can hinder progress. As the energy landscape evolves, one thing is clear: the cloud journey is neither uniform nor simple. In this era of rapid technological change, can any energy company afford to be left behind in the cloud?
