If you are interested in why their mission is so important, check out the book "Recoding America" by Jennifer Pahlka -- Fun facts that I learned: - The IRS still runs code written in assembly language. Try hiring for that. The failed their last attempt at modernization to the tune of Billions. The problem was never a technical one, from my shallow understanding of the subject. - When applying for food stamps there was a question that asked if the applicant owned a burial plot. The explanation for why is in the book, and like everything in life, it is multifaceted. -- I think what Matt is working on is genuinely very important, and I hope his team takes home the gold medal. Fingers crossed 🤞

Personal Update: A picture is worth a thousand words, but I’ll add a few for context... Earlier this year I walked away from an amazing team at Lockheed Martin. I had learned from some of today’s most effective aerospace minds how advanced technology gets built for, and bought by, governments all over the world. But while my inner child remained obsessed with the products themselves (especially the ones from you #Skunks reading this), my 28-year-old self had become unsatisfied with the underlying process of what insiders know as “Government Acquisition” - namely, the ecosystem that exists between private industry, public funding, and national-scale missions like defense, sustainable infrastructure, education, and healthcare. I experienced first-hand how the processes around public sector technology were made inefficient, and saw that it wasn’t through any overt wrong-doing by any party. It was simply a matter of there being no clear thread of context across the stakeholders of a government procurement opportunity: Humans on all sides of the table create homemade systems across excel, powerpoint, and email to 'connect the dots' of mission needs with the relevant people and available money for solutions. It takes months just to get the right data together while the world needs this to take seconds. So that’s why I’m excited to officially introduce Pryzm to my personal network today, because it’s about something I believe we can all get behind: building a more effective and trustworthy public sector through acquisition transparency.
