In 2016, I contacted my former Professor Dr. Marcus Schulz and asked him for getting a student team for a current project at Bosch, since I was part of such a student project during my studies and made very positive experiences. What happened afterwards? 👨🏫 My former professor still remembered me well and asked me right away if I would like to take over the lectureship for this project 👍 Although I had limitied experience (it was just one year after my graduation in Industrial Engineering), I got the chance to take over the lectureship ⏳ And now, 7 years later, I am still teaching students at the Technical University of Applied Sciences Technische Hochschule Würzburg-Schweinfurt (THWS) How do the students benefit from it? 👨💼 Work on real topics from the industry 👨🎓 Learn to apply theoretical knowledge into practice 🔎 Get insights into a fantastic company #boschrexroth How do the companies benefit from it? 💡 Get new impulses and innovative ideas from students who do not know the company (external view) 📝 Receive an analysis and a project report with recommended actions regarding a specific topic 🤵 Get to know students and find new employees From my point of view, it is a win-win situation for both the students and the companies. 🏆 I look forward to having more exciting projects at Bosch Rexroth in cooperation with the Technische Hochschule Würzburg-Schweinfurt (THWS) in order to further develop our global 🌍 Service organization in the business unit #IndustrialHydraulics. The next projects are already in the pipeline ✅ Marcus Schulz and Bernd Ankenbrand. #boschrexroth #wemovetowin+ #industrialhydraulics #service #theoriginal

Fritz Studer AG is well-known for working closely with #academia and encouraging young talent to make breakthrough R&D projects. In this edition of #MotionMeeting, the #FritzStuderAward2023 for Innovative Grinding Technologies was given to Dr Emil Sauter from the Institute for Manufacturing Technology and Machine Tools at ETH Zürich. The prize money was #CHF10000. His topic was – ‘Detection and avoidance of thermal damage for high-performance metal grinding processes using hybrid machine learning models’. His work deals with the development of an #innovativeconditionmonitoring system for #externalcylindricalgrinding with #metalbondedCBN tools, which recognizes #thermaldamage in situ and predicts the remaining useful life of #grindingtools with relative #accuracy. Process parameters such as #structurebornenoise, #spindlecurrent, #forcecharacteristics, etc., and the use of #timefrequency transformations generate process features of a #grindingprocess to detect different stages of thermal damage to the workpiece with #highaccuracy. The remaining #toollife can also be estimated. In general, this work with its many industry-oriented practical tests also shows that #machinelearningmethods can lead to #higherproductivity and improved #componentquality in #grindingtechnology. Speaking on the company’s industry-academia practices, Dr Frank Fiebelkorn, Head of Research and Technology, Fritz Studer AG shared that the #FritzStuderAward is aimed at graduates from #Europeanuniversities and technical colleges. He explained, “We were looking for creative ideas and solutions for the #machinetool industry. The objective of the #researchprize are, on the one hand, to #boostinnovation in the #machinetoolindustry with feasible solutions, and on the other hand, to promote #young #technical and #scientifictalents.” Fritz Studer AG Jonas Gerber Michèle Zeller Michèle Fahrni Inke Myschker United Grinding Group UNITED GRINDING North America Paul Koessl Department of Mechanical and Process Engineering (D-MAVT), ETH Zurich

👨🏫 𝐆𝐮𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐥𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐨𝐧 𝐜𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐞𝐱𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐞 💡 I had the honour of giving another guest lecture 👨🏫 in the Master course Integrated Product Development at my alma mater FAU Erlangen-Nürnberg 👨🎓. Thanks to Dr. Jörg Miehling and Prof. Sandro Wartzack from the KTmfk - Lehrstuhl für Konstruktionstechnik (Chair of Engineering Design) for inviting me once again as guest lecturer 👍. I am looking forward to our further exchange 🤝! The focus 🎯 of my lecture was how complexity in mechatronic product development can be cracked by cost and value engineering 💸, modularization ⚙, and configuration 💻. Therefore, I first developed a basic understanding of complexity 🕸 with the students in order to explain how each of the three approaches contributes to the three basic complexity strategies – complexity avoiding, complexity reducing and complexity mastering 🤹. 💭 Would you like to take on the complexity challenge of developing innovative robotics solutions 🦾 for industrial applications together with us at STÄUBLI 🤖? ▶ If so, I look forward to hearing from you and to our get-together 🤝. ➡ We are currently and frequently hiring both students and permanent colleagues at STÄUBLI Robotics 🤖 (see link in the comments for a few open positions). ➡ We are also always happy to receive initiative applications. 💭 Feel free to contact me in advance if you have any questions. #FAU #1innovator #FAUproud #guestlecture #complexity #ComplexityManagement #valuemanagement #modularization #configuration #productdevelopment #engineering #staublirobotics #industrialautomation #robotics #AGV #team #careergrowth

Join me at #IMAT2023 and learn what the “Next Generation Materials & Processes for Sustainability in Aerospace” has in store for the #materialsscience community! I’ll be participating in the "Advanced Materials and Manufacturing Technologies" panel discussion, where fellow experts from various material societies will convene and share our insights on the impact of new materials and manufacturing technologies in our respective fields. The panel will provide a platform for attendees to give feedback and discuss the latest advancements in materials science, engineering, and technology. The discussion topics will include materials for high performance and critical applications such as materials for aerospace and automotive, smart materials, and will provide an update on the development status of advanced manufacturing technologies including additive manufacturing, among others. It will begin with an opening statement/comment by each panelist, which will be followed by questions to the panelists from the audience. By bringing together a diverse group of experts, the panel aims to foster collaboration, share knowledge, and identify areas for future research and development. Ultimately, the goal of this panel is to advance the field of materials science and engineering and improve an understanding of the impact of materials on the quality of life. IMAT runs October 16-19 in Detroit, Michigan. Learn more at https://lnkd.in/enF-B3qT

👞 Personalised products like medical devices or safety shoes offer numerous benefits, but there are challenges when it comes to designing them. Current methods often include manual or semi-automated steps, making it tedious and time consuming. For his PhD, Farzam Tajdari developed new methods of pattern recognition, created an optimised 4D scanning device, and produced a novel 4D data set in the process, showing there is a better way to do personalised design. A unique aspect of Tajdari’s research journey is that he was simultaneously pursuing two PhDs. About a year before coming to Delft University of Technology, he started a PhD at Aalto University in Finland on automated and connected vehicles. "Doing two PhD's in two different fields gave me more creativity and made my mind more dynamic. It helped me to think at the same time on different things from a broader point of view", he said. Tajdari is now starting a new two-year postdoctoral project at TU Delft | Mechanical Engineering, where he will study human movement with the aim of reducing motion sickness.
