What we should know about #Catalyticconverter Support Mat The main difference between non-intumescent #mat and #intumescentmat lies in their behavior when exposed to high temperatures. ✅ Non-intumescent mat: Does not expand or swell when heated. Maintains its original thickness and density. Typically used for applications where the mat/monolith interface temperature exceeds 950°C Examples include 3M™ Interam™ 1100HT Series mats ✅ Intumescent mat: Expands or swells significantly (3-4 times its original thickness) when exposed to heat. The expansion creates a char foam that insulates and protects the underlying substrate. Typically used for applications where the mat/monolith interface temperature is below 950°C The expansion of intumescent mats helps compensate for the differences in thermal expansion between the ceramic monolith and metal casing, maintaining a tight seal and preventing gaps from forming at high temperatures.
