The majority of my clients typically fall into the mid-level to senior professional category. However, after watching Kate Flaherty's advice on 7NEWS Australia, I felt it was important to highlight some key points related to both resume writing and self-awareness. As Kate mentioned, Year 12 students are likely to navigate through approximately five significant career changes in their lives. Having offered advice to Year 12 students while working as a Resume Expert at Torrens University Australia's open day, I observed that constructing their resumes can be challenging, especially due to a lack of experience. One piece of advice I consistently share is to emphasise key projects, leadership initiatives, and extracurricular activities. This approach not only showcases their capabilities but also highlights their potential beyond traditional work experience. These insights hold true for all professionals; mid-level professionals are likely to undergo at least one more significant career change, and numerous jobs of the future have yet to be created. With this perspective in mind, self-awareness and the ability to comprehend who you are, your strengths, skills, and even shortcomings, become valuable assets at any stage of your life. Developing these skills earlier in life proves advantageous. Wishing all Year 12 students and professionals alike success and fulfilment on their career journeys.
