A quick placement..... A couple of weeks ago I finished up a successful placement of a high level construction executive in New York. The process took place over a period of 2 weeks from a phone call at 6:30pm to a first interview, to an offer and then an acceptance of the position. On the surface it looks like it was a very quick turnaround.....but the process really took 8 years. That's right......eight years. I have been connected with this talented individual since 2016 and we spoke about once a quarter over that time period. We developed a great relationship over that time period and I never try to move someone when they are truly happy with their role...it's a futile endeavor. In the end the process took over 40 phone conversations over 96 months. Relationship building is the most important part of this business and it often takes a long time but in the end it is worth it! #recruiting #construction

Time is the enemy! In the construction industry today, skilled talent is a finite resource. This is far from new info – but unlike many other industries, there's a massive talent disparity and labor shortage ... and everyone needs skilled professionals. If you find a candidate who meets 85%~ of the technical qualifications and aligns with your organization's values and culture, it’s often a mistake to keep searching for the "perfect" candidate. Waiting just a few days to a week to "see what else is out there" can mean losing a great candidate to a faster-moving competitor. We see it far too often. If you see a candidate as a finite value, based solely on production and skills, then it makes sense to devalue the hiring process and say "ho hum" when a great candidate goes elsewhere because you moved too slowly to get them. But if your focus is on building a great team and you see the value an individual will bring to that vision, then you will NOT let a great candidate slip through your fingertips.
