History should never be forgotten.
The Government of Canada honours the national historic significance of the Jamaican Maroons in Nova Scotia. In April 1796, more than 500 Maroons from Trelawny Town in the mountains of northwestern Jamaica were forcibly transported to the British colony of Nova Scotia. Their experiences exemplified the insecure rights and freedoms of African-descended British subjects in the late-18th-century Atlantic world. The Maroons of Trelawny Town were formerly enslaved peoples of African ancestry and their descendants who had lived in the Cockpit Country region of Jamaica until their exile following the second and final Maroon War (1795–1796). Almost everyone from the town—approximately 150 families or more than 500 adults and children—were forcibly transported to Nova Scotia. Many people became sick and several died during the voyage. The unveiling is one part of a larger event to honour and commemorate this important day alongside the Office of African Nova Scotian Affairs, the Canadian Museum of Immigration at Pier 21, the Black Cultural Centre for Nova Scotia, and the Jamaican Cultural Association of Nova Scotia. #Maroons #Jamaicashistory #Heritage #NannyoftheMaroons #Africville #NovaScotia #CulturalHeritage https://lnkd.in/ewPG4tZ3

your love and responsibility towards your country: “Reflect on a time when you felt a strong sense of responsibility towards your country. What did you do, and what did you learn from the experience? How has this experience shaped your understanding of what it means to be a responsible citizen?”As we stand at the crossroads of our nation’s future, I am reminded of the words of John F. Kennedy, who said, ‘Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country.’ These words have never been more relevant than they are today. We are living in a time of great change and uncertainty, but we must not forget the values that make our country great. We must remember that we are all in this together, and that it is our collective responsibility to build a better future for ourselves and for generations to come. Let us work together to create a country that is inclusive, just, and prosperous. Let us embrace our diversity and celebrate our differences. Let us be the change that we want to see in the world.

April is Arab American Heritage Month! Imagine a world without the amazing contributions of Arab Americans—no delicious falafel to savor, no Paula Abdul to dance to—sounds depressing, right? TeleSolv wants to celebrate the rich and invaluable contributions of Arab Americans to our country. Also, did you know that Arab American Heritage Month was only established in 2017? The history it honors dates back to 1527, when Estebanico Azemmouri and Antonio Bishallany arrived, representing the first Arab Americans. Despite challenges, the Arab American community, comprising 22 countries remains united by language and culture. Here are some tips to commemorate this month: 1. Educate yourself through articles, books, documentaries. 2. Support Arab American-owned businesses. Whether it’s a restaurant, bookstore, or an art gallery! 3. Combat Anti-Arab bigotry. Advocate for inclusivity & challenge stereotypes! 4. Google & attend cultural events near you, like festivals and exhibitions. Let's give a big shoutout to all the amazing Arab Americans out there! Keep rocking your culture and showing the world what it means to be proud of your roots. #arabamericanheritagemonth #diversity #dei

September 30th is National Day for Truth and Reconciliation in Canada, a day dedicated to honoring the children who never returned home from residential schools, as well as the survivors, their families, and their communities. The Indigenous Peoples of Canada, with their rich history, culture, and contributions, are fundamental to the nation’s past, present, and future. In a world too often divided, this reminder gives all Canadians the chance to contribute meaningfully to the healing process through recognition, respect, cooperation, and partnership. Amidst global challenges of division, war, and conflict, let us come together to create a better future for both the Indigenous Peoples and all Canadians, offering hope for a more peaceful and united world.
