The new centre aims to provide students, engineers and the wider audience with a historical awareness of the role that technology and engineers played in societal transitions in the past two centuries, as well as to develop working methods that makes such knowledge actionable today. The 4TU.History of Technology centre will stimulate and facilitate research, education and public debate on the role of technology in societal transitions then and now. 'A better understanding of the history of technology helps us to broaden our view and enables us to gain more nuanced insights on the connections between technological, social and environmental change. How can we use such insights to make ongoing transitions more inclusive and more sustainable?' says scientific director Erik van der Vleuten. On behalf of the University of Twente, Dr Andreas Weber, Prof Fokko Jan Dijksterhuis and Prof Esther Turnhout are shaping the 4TU.History of Technology centre. ℹ More info on the website of 4TU https://lnkd.in/e6_sVUKb 𝐓𝐡𝐞 4TU.Federation, 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐟𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐞𝐜𝐡𝐧𝐨𝐥𝐨𝐠𝐲 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐍𝐞𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐬, 𝐚𝐢𝐦𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐛𝐨𝐨𝐬𝐭 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐩𝐨𝐨𝐥 𝐭𝐞𝐜𝐡𝐧𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐞𝐱𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐬𝐞.

🗣️Rachel Pooley and Freddy Guemeni from the Innovation Factory, spoke at the academic event, “Turning Your Ideas into Assets” this week. So, what went down? 💡 There were practical tips and insightful talks from a variety of perspectives, including The University of Manchester's School Lead for Business Engagement for the School of Engineering and Holiferm CEO James Winterburn and NeuWave Technologies founder Jana Stella who discussed evaluating business ideas with patents and market research. Our head of IP services, Freddy Guemeni, also spoke at the event, highlighting: "For early-stage technologies, IP is your currency. The IP strategy supports the business model and can unlock a unique competitive advantage, premium pricing, or a lower price point." The overarching message from this event was the importance of clearly articulating your value proposition. Whether you’re communicating with future customers or people looking to invest, you need to be able to get your message across. It was so wonderful to see such a spirit of innovation amongst academics at the University of Manchester, all eager to bring their ideas to life. We have more events planned to support Engineering academics on their innovation journey. So, watch this space ! 👀 #IP #Commercialisation #AcademicInnovation #Engineering #IdeasIntoAssets

Cardinal's Call: A Transdisciplinary Inspiration Ten patient minutes yielded this photo close to Lassonde building of Polytechnique Montréal. The cardinal's call echoes the spirit of transdisciplinary engineering research. Its ... 1) patient nest-building symbolizes the perseverance required in complex problem-solving. 2) social acceptance within the ecosystem reflects the importance of community engagement. 3) natural sense of place speaks to the significance of context in developing sustainable solutions. Just as the cardinal weaves together diverse materials to build its nest, our researchers combine knowledge from various fields to tackle complex challenges. This reminds us that engineering is more than technical expertise. It's about observing, learning, and adapting, just as the cardinal flourishes in its environment. It's about collaborating across disciplines, just as building its community. Let the cardinal's call inspire us to continue our transdisciplinary journey, where innovation and collaboration converge to create a brighter, more sustainable world. #transdisciplinaryresearch, #engineering, #innovation, #collaboration #sustainability, #natureinspired, #PolytechniqueMontreal
