Hands down the most effective conference for educators of personal finance. Not only has the national team of Laura L. Levine Dan Hebert Joel Chrisler and many more, mastered hosting a comprehensive conference with a teacher-centered focus (it's in their mission!), they are doing incredible work ALL year long to promote why this content is critical to our nation's youth. I have leaned on all three of these individuals at one time or another since discovering their work, and often stated that #JumpStartNEC changed my classroom, not only for me, but for my students. (Mystic Dan) #DanTheMan, Laura, Joel, the entire JumpStart Team...I appreciate you for wanting my classroom to be better in providing high-quality, highly-engaging personal finance resources for ALL of my students. I wish State Departments of Education understood how this work has been comprehensive for many years, not just convenient timing in recent headlines. 💭 Here are a few of the most powerful thoughts I’m reflecting on from Dayton Moore’s session: Make an advanced decision. A decision in the moment is a reaction. Take no credit for the wins but all of the responsibility for the mistakes. If you’re not making mistakes, you’re not being aggressive enough. Give people more than they expect. Don’t buy into fear and don’t let perfection paralyze you. Model the behavior you want to see. Be real with your team. You never grow out of the need to practice the fundamentals and build the muscle. You won’t be perfect, but we serve a perfect God who modeled perfect leadership in Christ. 💪

The attack on public schools is an attack on equity in our education system. Traditional public school districts in Ohio serve more than 1.8 million students and employ more than 245,000 Ohioans. An investment in our public schools is an investment in our nation’s 50 million public school students. #fundpublicschools #nationalpublicschoolsweek

We must speak life into our students, cheer them on, teach them the skills, and provide the tools they need to be prepared for the future. Attention California parents! Did you know that up to $1,500 is available to low income, foster, and/or homeless kids in grades K-12 attending public schools in the state? That's right! This money can be used towards college savings and is waiting for up to 3.6 million eligible kids. However, only 350,000 parents have claimed their kids' accounts so far. Don't let this opportunity slip away! For many families in marginalized communities, this sum of money is a fortune, and it could be the jump start that kids need to become happier and wealthier adults. Studies show that college graduates make an average of $1,000,000 more over their lifetime than those with only a high school diploma. Moreover, owning a college fund with at least $500 makes a child 3x more likely to attend college and 4x less likely to drop out. So, if you know anyone who is from a low-income household with grade school kids, please encourage them to sign up at www.calkids.org. Remember, sometimes all a kid needs is a little lift.
