Can We Sprinkle Some Scranton Sunshine in Our Offices, Pleeeease? Is anyone else obsessed about the TV show "The Office"? Well, I know I am! The show might be a mockumentary, but that Scranton crew makes office life look FUN (well, most of the time) We love it, we laugh at it, and maybe, just maybe, a tiny part of us wishes we worked at Dunder Mifflin Scranton. I mean, wouldn't it be amazing if our workplaces had a sprinkle of that Scranton magic? Now, let's be real. The Office is a comedy, and Scranton wouldn't be perfect. Michael Scott's antics could get old fast, and the constant goofing off might not be conducive to getting actual work done. Transforming my Shared Lives service : A lesson from Yard Act's electrifying performance. What do a band and social care have in common? Read on to find out how watching Yard Act last night has inspired me to want to build and amazing Shared Lives scheme for everyone involved with or drawing upon support from it. Sometimes, we need a little inspiration to help us see our work in a new light. That's why I want to share my experience from watching the band Yard Act with my brother in Manchester last night, and how concert that left me feeling inspired and energized for my work week ahead. Their electrifying synergy on stage and was a fantastic example people collaborating together to create something much more powerful than the sum of its individual parts. Watching their performance inspired me to think about the Shared Lives scheme I manage and how we can create something which is better through involvement of my staff team, Shared Lives carers and, and people that draw upon our support. Just like a band where each member plays a crucial role, in social care, we rely on the unique strengths and perspectives of each team member to create a harmonious service. The magic of Yard Act's performance lies in how their diverse musical elements came together to create something greater than the sum of its parts. It's a powerful reminder for me that when we encourage diversity and foster collaboration, we can achieve extraordinary outcomes. #UKREiFF - Just like that, it was brief… and a memory. So, what were the best bits? The best parts for me were the journey, which began as soon as I got on the train and the trips between meetings and events. The spontaneous, unplanned warm conversations, the nods, the “hello,” the “hey,” the smiles, and the tap on the shoulder with “I remember you!”—along with a few high fives and hugs—made it a blast. Immediately, I sat next to another REiFF goer on the train, someone I had met a few years before lockdown. At the next stop, the Marketing #Derby gang, councillors, and leaders jumped on, juggling their hot drinks. There were so many people and conversations, it wasn’t all about business. We talked about the wife/husband/partner left at home, childbirth, the kids, chickenpox, teenagers, health, gyms, diets, holidays, goals, hobbies, the cost of wedding dresses, music, festivals, and much more. The hard sell often doesn’t work: “Give us a job” or “Give us a project.” It’s about developing relationships, building trust, and doing business with people you like. You have to talk. Or are you successful just collecting business cards? #Leeds as a destination works.
