As I have gotten older (and more handsome), I have also started to know myself better as a person in the workplace too. When I look at my career, it's no coincidence that the places I have been the happiest have also been the places where I felt appreciated for my work and for who I am as a person. On the flipside, the places where I was NOT happy words like "thank you" were as rare as finding a Beastie Boys tune that isn't awesome 🔥 (read: almost non-existent). Even though I am still early in my tenure at Synopsys Inc, one of the things that has stood out immediately to me is the warm, appreciative and collaborative teammates I am having the pleasure of working with. They always are quick to say thanks and roll up their sleeves to help. This is a huge factor for me in making this a truly memorable - and fun - experience so far. Do you feel appreciated at work? When I consider a new role, there are certain qualities that I consider "Must Haves" for a potential new employer: 1) A focus on people. Not just saying it - but actual demonstrative evidence that the company truly puts its people first. 2) A mission that matters. Is the company doing something meaningful and having an impact on the world? 3) A culture of inclusion. I know I am not everyone's cup of tea - but I want to be somewhere where I can be the biggest nerd possible, and people are cool with that because everyone else is doing their own thing too. I know some people who tell me they put on a "work mask" when they go to work. What does that mishegas even mean? They tell me it means a bunch of things - from keeping their opinions to themselves to sometimes straight up acting like a muted version of themselves so as to not "upset the apple cart" or to "just fit in". To each their own, but personally I could not and would not ever want to work anywhere where I felt I had to "put on a work mask" to be successful. Like the great King Ad-Rock of Beastie Boys once said, "Think I'm gonna change up my style just to fit in?" Even though I am only four months in at Synopsys Inc , there has been no "work mask" for this dude - unless of course you are referring to my Darth Vader with voice modulator mask. N is for Non-Linear Once upon a time, you got a job, did that job for a few years, got a promotion, became a little more senior and earned a little more money and so the pattern continued. The traditional career ladder has died a death. Instead, you can expect your career to be non-linear. One resume poster board. 500 business cards. Over 100 conversations with engineers, managers, executives, and founders. Results: several scheduled interviews, professional connections, and more in the pipeline! These past 3 days, I've stood outside of NVIDIA GTC conference, handing out my cards, striking up a conversation with anyone who wondered what I was up to. The hiring market may be tough, but I decided it was time to do things a little differently, as I tend to do. And boy am I glad that I did! The return on this time investment has been absolutely positive, and I'm excited for all of the opportunities that I've created for myself by doing so. I can't wait to start evaluating the options I'll have! This is the closest I've felt to starting my professional career, and I know that the first step is just around the corner. I was too happy when I saw the Nvidia CEO, Mr. Jensen Huang add one of his career "dishwashing" which was an unrelated job(as called) to his resume and made it clear to everyone. deeply I am proud of what he did. each one of us is a combination of many Dimensions. Any job, I insist on this word, any job can give a different dimension to our personality. These days many think if one person is very professional in his job is ok, and enough. while in real life we see there is nothing called, enough and ok. many times it happened that I met some people who called themselves professional in their job and I got too happy but when it came to the real work (I mean out of theory), I saw as if they had one eyeglass that could see only 2 colors and what I was expecting from them they couldn't cover. maybe being a professional in one job is beautiful but for sure, we didn't come to this world to do one job only and go. the dimensions of human beings are unlimited, but imagine you are forced to believe a few dimensions r enough to have it is truly laughable. I remember when I wanted to make LinkedIn, one friend told me "Be careful what u write here is for showing how much u r professional in ur job, for this try to not mention any unrelated job here if u do, maybe they mock u. that night I was thinking deeply about what were unrelated things in my life, while all that I did made me, have this personality. In the end, I told myself, that there is no unrelated, it is impossible we think of unrelated jobs. because anything we have done brought s.th to us. #nvidia #personality #human_dimensions #leadership #hitalki
