Seven years ago today 72 people lost their lives at Grenfell Tower. The Grenfell fire was the catalyst that started the conversation about things needing to change in the construction industry. We in our industry must get better, we must strive for positive change and improvement across the board. We must strive for an industry based on values, integrity and competence, rather than misplaced confidence, poor qualifications and low price. We must strive for more effective and impactful regulation. We must be honest about our past mistakes and failures, and strive for an industry that ensures that we learn from that past. We’ve all got to do our bit to reset our industry, and drive forward the systemic change, that needs to happen, in a meaningful way. Change that needs to make a positive difference. There is a job of work that needs to be done focussed on outcomes that need to happen. Thoughts today are not just with the victims’ families, but the survivors and emergency services; firefighters and paramedics who responded that night. #healthandsafety #fire #firesafety #tetra #firefighting #firefighters #remember #remembering #rememberingthem #emergencyservices #Grenfell

Simplify your EMS processes to help your team love what they do | If you’re in EMS, let’s connect! 🚑
As a younger firefighter, I first heard the phrase, "200 years of tradition unimpeded by progress". And, while there definitely is a kernel of truth with this, it's also obviously inaccurate. Yes, pride and ownership and history and heritage are important, and the love of our community never goes out of style. But, we aren't stuck in the past. Consider hose loads. Back in the day, everything was a flat load. Then the minuteman came around. Hi-rise packs, horseshoe, whatever variants thereof... Airpacks and bunker gear have changed. RIT is now a standard thing (is an ambulance?). Mayday drills. Top mount pump panels. Color-coordinated hoses. The list goes on. The point is that the Fire Service actually embraces improvement and innovation. At the core of the Fire Service is serving its community, realizing that what works for Chicago Fire might not work for Smallville VFD, and vice versa (big water in Chicago means hitting another hydrant, versus tanker shuttles and drafting from a pond). So, all this talk about process mapping, elimination of wastes, continuous improvement mindset, etc., are completely in-line with the history and traditions of the Fire Service. I can see it. Can you? #Firefighter #EMS

As a firefighter, I have seen the importance of working smoke alarms cannot be emphasized enough. These simple devices can save lives by providing crucial time to escape during a fire. Remember these key tips to keep your home and family safe: - Install smoke alarms in every bedroom, hallway, and on each level of your home. - Regularly test your smoke alarms to ensure they are functioning correctly. - Change the batteries twice a year, aligning the change with the clocks for a simple reminder. Let's all take proactive measures to protect ourselves and our loved ones. Stay safe! #FirePrevention #FireSafety #SmokeAlarmsSaveLives #FirstResponder #FirefighterLife

Absolutely! Meeting the people we are protecting is essential in fire safety. It bridges the gap between theory and practice, allowing us to truly understand the environments we’re safeguarding. By engaging with the community, we gain valuable insights into their specific needs and concerns, which enables us to tailor our fire safety strategies more effectively. It’s not just about implementing protocols—it's about building trust and creating a culture of safety that is both personal and impactful. At the end of the day, our expertise is most meaningful when it directly benefits the people we serve.
Managed to get out on site this week with Jamie Greenaway to meet some of the residents that Gunfire - Passive Fire Protection will #protecting Some really good questions asked, and we were happy to put any fears/reservations to rest.
