A thought-provoking comment I came across on a reddit thread that highlights a crucial issue in our society and education system: "Schools will never be the safety net they appear to be on paper simply due to the absolute amount of serious need that schools are presented with. When we say 'fund schools,' we literally mean pay for enough people to catch all the kids who are hurting." This underscores the importance of a collective effort to improve not just our schools, but the broader community to truly support our students. ----- Note for context: The quote/thread this is linked from discusses the role of instructional coaches in schools. There are many thoughts on how this role could work effectively, but also why it often doesn't. Instructional coaches frequently become burdened by administrative, paperwork, and logistical tasks—often due to administrators struggling to manage these same responsibilities themselves. As a result, coaches are unable to focus on their primary role of supporting teachers.

Restorative Justice vs. Punitive Discipline in Education and Afterschool Programs: A Path to Healing In schools and afterschool programs, restorative justice and punitive discipline offer two approaches to addressing conflict. While punitive approaches focus on punishment, often resulting in disconnection, restorative justice centers on understanding, accountability, and healing. This approach helps students learn from their mistakes while building empathy, resolving conflict, and fostering community. At Dallas Academix Hub, we’re passionate about creating positive academic and social environments where students can thrive. Through restorative practices, we help students develop the skills to resolve conflicts, take responsibility for their actions, and grow as individuals. Psalm 51:12: "Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation; And uphold me with thy free spirit." Stay tuned for my upcoming blog post to explore how restorative justice can transform educational spaces and afterschool programs like those at Dallas Academix Hub. Let’s build communities where every student has the opportunity to grow through restoration, not just punishment. 🙏✨ #RestorativeJustice #DallasAcademixHub #Education #AfterschoolPrograms #StudentGrowth #Empathy #PositiveDiscipline #CommunityBuilding
