Last year, almost 70,000 children with disabilities were awarded Florida's Family Empowerment Scholarship for Unique Abilities. Most of those children were placed in private schools where their rights to special education were reduced or very limited compared to public schools. This overview explains the implications for special education rights and protections when children with disabilities are placed in private schools and how parents may safeguard their children's rights to the educational services they need before enrolling them. #FESUA #FloridaEmpowermentScholarship #SpecialEducation #SpecialEducationAdvocacy

🌈 Safeguarding Children with Disabilities: A Call to Action in Education 🌟 Every child deserves a safe, supportive, and inclusive learning environment, especially children with disabilities. It's crucial that we, as educators, parents, and community members, work together to ensure that safeguarding measures are not only in place but effectively implemented. Let's educate ourselves and others about the unique challenges faced by children with disabilities and actively promote their rights to protection and equal opportunities. Awareness and understanding are key to preventing discrimination and abuse. We must advocate for comprehensive policies, accessible resources, and ongoing training that empower all children to thrive. By fostering an environment of empathy, respect, and inclusion, we can make a significant difference in the lives of children with disabilities. Join us in making education a safe haven for every child. 📚💖 https://lnkd.in/eBQyUAHb #SafeguardingChildren #DisabilityAwareness #InclusiveEducation

To help reduce the number of out-of-school children, our schools should be accessible and affordable. That way, children with disabilities will not have to travel long distances to schools. Education is a right of every child regardless of disability. That is why you should support the Inclusive Spelling Bee 🐝 Let's join hands to promote educational rights of every child, celebrating unique differences🥂 Many thanks to members of SUPER PARENTS Foundation who added and lent me their voices to amplify the advocacy on the need for more inclusive schools. A child with special needs deserves a school near home. #funmilolaarikeogunro #inclusiveeducation #InclusiveCommunity #InclusiveLearning #inclusivespellingbee #children #inclusiveeducation #inclusivespellingbee #equitableeducation #celebratinguniquedifference

Have you heard about the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA)? This cornerstone federal law ensures that ALL children with disabilities have access to a FREE appropriate public education (FAPE) in the least restrictive environment possible. IDEA identifies students with disabilities, ensures their placement in educationally appropriate settings, and provides ample funding to meet their specialized educational needs. Amazingly, the number of children with disabilities in education has risen from 1.8 million in 1975 to 7.5 million in 2020-21, with 66% spending 80% or more of their day in general education classrooms! We are so proud of the success of this law in promoting inclusion and improving educational outcomes for ALL students. Let's continue to support and uplift the voices of those with disabilities. #éclatLaw #IDEA #inclusionmatters #educationforall #disabilityrights #AltamonteSpringsAttorney

Students with disabilities are entitled under IDEA to be educated in their least restrictive environment and to the maximum extent appropriate to learn alongside non disabled peers. Inclusion isn’t just a standard public schools must follow, its a positive way of life and thinking. When children with special needs transition from school years to adult years, the goal is for each adult to have a meaningful role in the greater community. #myeducationsolution #education #educationassistance #educationadvocate #iepadvocate #miamischoolassistant #schooladvocate #IEPconsultant #504consultant #miamischool #floridaschool

Today, on the first #InternationalDayOfPlay, I am excited to share a video from Perkins School for the Blind focusing on playful learning for children with disabilities. What does a child with disabilities need to learn to play? Likely, toys and materials they can access and adults with specialized teaching skills to help with exploration, communication, and decision-making. Let's remember today that there is more than one way to play! 🎈🎉 Watch the video here: https://lnkd.in/e2ANrk56

As we wrap up #LDAwarenessMonth it is important to discuss the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). A crucial federal law ensuring that children with disabilities receive an appropriate public education. It's comprised of various parts, each addressing specific needs. However, it's concerning that Congress originally committed to covering 40% of the extra costs per student for educating those with disabilities, but today, they provide only around 12% of that funding. Students with specific learning disabilities are the largest group among those served by IDEA. Let's work together to advocate for increased support and equity in education.
