Canada has just ceased its cooperation with two international student pathway programs. With the ongoing restructuring of immigration programs, including the pause on the SDS, it’s clear that Canada is reassessing its approach to manage resources like housing and jobs effectively. While it may be challenging for aspiring students and newcomers in the short term, prioritizing stability in these areas could ultimately create a stronger foundation for future immigration. Hopefully, as the situation improves, Canada will re-open these pathways, continuing to benefit from the talent and diversity that international students and new immigrants bring

Now, they can just provide proof of their ability to pay atleast the first years tuition fee through either GIC or other accepted means of financial evidence. 📢 End of Student Direct Stream (SDS) and Nigeria Student Express Program: What This Means for International Students IRCC’s recent move to end the SDS and Nigeria Student Express programs marks a big change for students pursuing Canadian study permits. Here’s a quick breakdown: Pros: 1. ✅ Streamlined Process: With a single, consistent application process for all international students, applicants can avoid confusion around country-specific program rules and requirements. 2. ✅ Equal Access: All students now have the same application process, creating a more level playing field without fast-track options only available to certain nationalities. Cons: 1. ❌ Potentially Longer Processing Times: The SDS provided faster processing; without it, students may experience delays that could affect their arrival plans. 2. ❌ Higher Documentation Demands: The SDS had clear, set requirements that made applications faster. Without it, students may face additional paperwork and variable documentation needs. 3. ❌ Uncertain Timelines: The SDS offered predictable timelines. Now, students may see variability, making it harder to plan for their studies. What’s Next? Students should plan ahead to account for potential delays and start their applications early. Staying informed on processing updates can help ensure a smoother transition into studying in Canada. #StudyinCanada #Studyvisa #Studyabroad #SDS #IRCC #Canada #Updates #Recentupdates Source: https://lnkd.in/gHRMtY8r

Canada Ends SDS and NSE for Study Permits IRCC’s recent change ends the Student Direct Stream (SDS) and Nigeria Student Express (NSE), meaning all international students now go through the regular study permit stream. Benefits: This aims to create a consistent, fair application process, reducing risks of student exploitation. Challenges: However, it could lead to longer processing times for those previously in SDS/NSE, with potentially more financial documentation needed. https://lnkd.in/gAeCQRWc

Major International student admissions policy change just announced in Canada! The country unifies international student permitting process, by nixing SDS/NSE options for applicants from 15 countries, including India, China, Nigeria and Brazil. This aims to ensure that all applicants are evaluated according to the same criteria. The impact will be quite seismic for language assessment for admissions to Canadian institutions. For the effected students, this framework shifts requirements from choosing from IRCC's short list of language test options, to a generally wider list of exams and other means of proofs, approved by the Canadian designated learning institution. What's next from IRCC?
