Working to build leadership in our youth through peer mentoring. Leadership Coach, DEI Awareness Builder and Former Chemistry Teacher
THROW BACK THURSDAY! 🙌 Have you listened to this episode of 🎙️ Education Unimagined yet? In this episode, we meet Kaitlyn! Do you find yourself judging your students the very first day they walk into the classroom? I recently began thinking about how I did that because as a classroom management technique, I needed to be able to assess what a student was going to do in my classroom, and I had to do it pretty quickly. The problem. Those evaluations and those judgments were based on very little evidence and very little information. Kaitlyn shares in this episode that she's often judged as a lazy student. I'm curious if you would judge her as a lazy student after listening to her interview. What are some arbitrary expectations for students that we still hold onto in the system of education? I was so amazed at the reasons why Kaitlyn was not successful according to the system she was in. She has a 3.8 GPA, in a challenging major, but she almost didn't graduate high school. NOT because of work, NOT because of grades. Listening to her story made me really wonder about what we're doing in the system of education. In our 🎤conversation, we also talk about why students might need us to see them beyond that first impression, what accommodations are for, and how the system of education can prevent students from developing into their best selves! Enjoy another episode of Unimagined 🎙️https://lnkd.in/eT5Jrz7N #studentvoice #podcast #students #educators #education #accomodations #mistakes #peersnotfears #IEP #504 #anxiety

💻 Mums Mean Business Coach | Your Business Support | Podcast Host 🥇 25+ years experience & Business Degree
MY BIGGEST WIN YET IN FACT EVER!!!!! So I said I was going into schools to help and do things and I have and I did and I am... and i'm excited beyond belief!! Podcasting is huge and it's just the start of the business this school set of students will be opening, running and progressing. They want business in school, they've got the mentor and the ideas... lets see what we can achieve! So what am I doing.... well..... the project has: 💫 7 students being personally mentored by me - 7 fab students at that! 💫 We are speaking about core areas to build better ways of communication & learning for young people in secondary schools. ✅ I'm helping them to use a positive online voice - to get them to understand the effects and consequences of bullying online - and how their 'popularity' and things they share have long term effects to them and those around them. ✅ Creating boundaries for them and ways to explain to adults what they want more of or less of to keep them interested in education - to give them paths that are positive. Helping our youngsters to explore their voices in positive ways, for positive results, to improve communication between adults and youngsters - to give them power over their futures and show them a route to success that can be made - if given opportunities and ways to be resourceful and how to take the help - not avoid it. Each week i'll keep you updated to our progress! #teaching #education #businessschool

As college application season approaches, high school seniors are busy refining their college lists, drafting essays, and preparing applications. These students often spend years focused on academic performance and building a strong résumé. But, as Vicki Nelson and Lynn Abrahams of College Parent Central highlight in their podcast episode, Is Your Student Ready for College?, there’s an important step that sometimes gets overlooked: having an honest conversation about whether college is the right choice for them at this moment. For parents, this conversation can be daunting. If college has always been the assumed path, hearing your child say, "no," can be surprising and unsettling. But, it’s a conversation worth having. College is a significant investment—cognitively, emotionally, socially, and financially—and it’s essential that students feel ready and motivated to take that step. Research suggests that students who take a gap year or gain work experience before college often perform better academically and are more successful in the long term. So, even if the answer to the college question is "no" right now, that may actually lead to greater success and fulfillment down the road. As professionals and parents, now is the time to ask these tough questions and support students in making the choice that’s right for them. #CollegeReadiness #GapYear #HigherEducation #ParentingTeens #StudentSuccess #CareerDevelopment #EducationPlanning #CollegeDecisions #FuturePlanning

Adult development researcher | Group Facilitator | ICF PCC & Mentor Coach | Founder of Vertical Development Institute | Adjunct Fellow at the University of the Sunshine Coast
Being an educator is, in my and Valerie's view, one of the hardest and most consequential professions in the world. Few other people, outside of immediate family, have such a profound impact on our children’s formative years as their teachers do. And the work of a teacher is about much more than information transfer. The values teachers embody through their behaviours every day, alongside the way classrooms, schools and education systems are run, all create what Dr. Dan Kaufman beautifully calls ‘the hidden curriculum’ - a powerful and mostly invisible set of lessons our children absorb about what is true, who they are expected to be, what matters and how the world works. In this latest episode of our Growing Humans podcast, Dan generously shared wisdom gathered over a lifetime of service as an educator and mentor of educators, and also, most importantly, a lifetime of work challenging and growing himself as a human being. He showed us how our deepest wounds can become our greatest gifts in life and provoked us to think about the role of education in a much broader way - as a vehicle for human ‘trans-formation’, rather than merely a process by which children receive ‘in-formation’. I, for one, have left this conversation with a renewed sense of gratitude for all educators who invest time and care in embracing each child as a unique human and who choose to stay attuned to self-reflection and learning while they facilitate others' learning. I also left inspired and with a sense of hope for what is possible in education if we start to see it not just as a knowledge-providing machine, but more as a vehicle for growing humans who can thrive in an ever more complex world. Val and I both hope every educator (and parent) listening to this episode will feel called to reflect and hopefully will find a valuable new perspective or even an idea for a personal experiment towards their own growth. Here is the full episode. We look forward to your reflections and insights as you listen: https://lnkd.in/grF_UJUS #growinghumans #verticaldevelopment #education #educator

I help Former Educator Founders Build Legendary Businesses 🧙🏼♂️🔮 Friend to Ruckus Makers 🏴☠️✌️ 3x Best Selling Author 📚 TOP 0.5% Podcast Host🎙️
Help your teachers hear themselves. Listen to HOW to do that in the podcast in this post ⬇️
This story is why we do what we do at TeachFX. 💙 "We’re hearing student voice, we’re hearing the learning, a lot more than before." 💙 Elementary school principal Dr. Kristen Horton shared her TeachFX story -- alongside our own Joseph Hyun -- in a conversation with Danny Bauer on the Better Leaders Better Schools podcast, and I am in awe. She did something that not all principals do. She started by having her instructional team use TeachFX to get insights into their instructional coaching conversations -- essentially, for them to first see clearly how they were teaching their teachers. And what they saw was eye-opening. 💡 "We saw was that we're asking teachers to create this wait time and this space for student discourse but we weren’t doing it as leaders." 💡 Give it a listen and let me know what it sparks for you.
