NTA Set to Release New Merit List of NEET UG 2024 Results, in Line with Court’s Directive The National Testing Agency (NTA) will soon release a new merit list for the NEET UG 2024 exam, following the Supreme Court's orders. This will change the rankings for 44 top students. Originally, 67 students scored a perfect 720 marks. However, 44 of them were given extra marks for a physics question they answered wrong due to an outdated NCERT textbook. The Supreme Court ruled that only the correct answer should count, so these extra marks will be removed. As a result, these 44 students' scores will drop, causing their ranks to fall significantly. Their new ranks will likely be beyond 88th place, and possibly even lower, according to sources. 14 students scored 720 without any extra marks, and another 70 who scored 716. The 44 students' new ranks will likely be after these 84 students. The Supreme Court also decided not to cancel the NEET-UG exam, stating that as of now, there is not enough evidence to prove that the exam results were significantly compromised. The education ministry welcomed this decision and promised to keep the NTA transparent and fair. They also plan to take legal action against anyone involved in any wrongdoing. For NEET Candidates: · Expect changes in the merit list and your rank in 2 days. · This revision is due to the Supreme Court's focus on fairness and accuracy. · Stay updated with any new information from the NTA and the government about the exam process. #NEETUG2024 #NEETUpdate #NEETNewMeritList Follow us for regular EDU updates and insights. https://lnkd.in/gWb73eTK

Controversy Surrounding NEET (UG) 2024 The NEET (UG) 2024 results have triggered widespread uproar across the country, largely due to significant irregularities surrounding the exam process. Here’s a timeline and summary of the key issues: Registration for NEET began on 9th February 2024 with a deadline initially set for 9th March, but it was extended to 16th March upon NTA's decision. Subsequently, the registration link was reopened from 9th to 10th April, followed by a correction window from 11th to 15th April to allow candidates to modify their application details. On 5th May, the exam took place amid reports of paper leaks in various states. However, the most severe concerns arose upon the declaration of results on 4th June. NEET employs an MCQ format with +4 for correct answers and -1 for incorrect ones, with a maximum score of 720. Astonishingly, 67 students achieved full marks (720/720) and were ranked first, a stark deviation from previous years' patterns. NTA attributed this anomaly to several factors: 1. They claimed the exam was easier than previous years, despite widespread perceptions among students and experts that it was tough and lengthy. 2. The increased number of candidates was cited as a reason for higher scores due to a larger pool of candidates. 3. Out of the top scorers, 44 received grace marks due to a revision in the physics answer key, and 6 received compensatory marks for time loss during the exam. Critics questioned the legitimacy of scores like 718 and 719, arguing they were impossible due to the negative marking system. The basis for granting grace marks, amounting to over 1500 students due to time loss, was justified using a normalization formula derived from legal precedents in the case of 'Disha Panchal & Ors. v. Union of India' (2018 SCC OnLine SC 603). However, the NTA did not disclose the specific number of marks awarded or the detailed formula used for calculating these grace marks. Additionally, discrepancies emerged between students' reported scores and their OMR sheets, unrelated to grace marks. Some students claimed their OMR sheets were mishandled or torn, impacting their final scores. PIL and Retest: Alakh Pandey (PhysicsWallah) along with others, filed a PIL before the Hon'ble Supreme Court seeking intervention and the formation of an independent enquiry committee to investigate NEET UG 2024 irregularities. Justices Vikram Nath and Ahsanuddin Amanullah said the "sanctity of NEET has been affected" and "we need answers" but refused to stay the counselling process for cleared candidates. On 13th June 2024, the NTA released a public notice stating that compensatory marks given to 1,563 students have been revoked following recommendations from a high-powered committee. The NTA will reconduct the NEET (UG) exam for these students. Those who opt out of the re-exam will have their results calculated based on their actual marks, without any grace marks. #NEET2024 #NTA

The NEET 2024 Controversy You may have seen hashtags like #NEETFraud, #NEETScam and #RENEET trending on X in the last 2-3 days. But what's the story behind these hashtags? The National Testing Agency (NTA) recently released the results of the NEET 2024 examination on 4th June, 2024. Post the declaration of results, the student-teacher fraternity is alleging multiple irregularities which have never been seen or found in any previous NEET examinations. NEET 2024 saw a record 67 students scoring perfect scores of 720/720 marks. This is unprecedented in the exam’s history where every year only two or three students are able to score full marks. It was also found that 8 students who have scored full marks belonged to the same examination center. This seems like an extremely improbable coincidence right? In another puzzling instance, there were multiple candidates who had scored 718 and 719 marks. What’s wrong in that you say? Well according to NTA’s own marking scheme, it's technically impossible for students to score those specific marks due to rules like negative marking and so on. NTA in a statement which it released later due to the massive public outcry said that it had awarded “grace marks” to multiple students who were late for the exam to compensate for their loss of time. There was no mention of any particular formula used for deciding the number of grace marks to be given or how many maximum grace marks were given to students. Due to the abnormally high number of top scorers this year, the ranks of all candidates have inflated by an astounding 3-4 times. This phenomenon is also known as Rank inflation. For example, last year a student could get a good government seat with marks as low as 550 or 570. This year, a student with 620 or 630 marks would still have a hard time securing admission in a government college. Multiple petitions have been filed across the country regarding the result and conduct of the exam. The Calcutta and Delhi High courts have demanded a response from NTA on petitions regarding the above irregularities while conducting the exam. Demands for a thorough CBI investigation into the alleged paper leak instances are also rampant. Some students are also calling for a reexamination of NEET 2024 while some are against the idea. Ultimately, the outcome is still uncertain. We will continue to cover the story as new developments unfold. Stay tuned. What are your thoughts on the current events happening around NEET UG exams? Here are some bits from our side for a better understanding of the fiasco. It all started when the exam was conducted on 5th May 2024. It was not a smooth sailing entrance, as many might anticipate. Around 5,000 centers were used for the exam. In many places, there was a paper leak. Supposedly, Rs.30-40 Lakh was given to buy the entrance exam papers. Many centers had electricity issues, which prevented candidates from appearing for the exam properly. The result was supposed to be announced at the end of May, but it was announced on the 4th of June when the election results were announced. Since election results were trending and all the news channels covered the election results, no one noticed the anomalies in the NEET UG results. But it was not something that could hide under bushes for long. The first thing people noticed about the exam results was that around 67 students got full marks at the entrance. Looking at the past 5-6 years, hardly 1-2 students have scored full marks in the entrance, and the maximum number can be 5. Another anomaly was in the allocation of grace marks. Due to power cuts or other issues, many students could not complete the paper on time. Many coaching institutes came up with an argument that rather than giving extra time for completing papers, why were extra marks allotted to the students? Grace marks drastically changed many students' ranks, affecting the overall cut-off and the selection criteria. Another aspect observed by PW (PhysicsWallah) was how students from the same coaching center and neighboring areas got the same marks. All these events and anomalies raised several questions about the integrity and overall structure of the exam. According to a recent update, the Supreme Court authorized the affray of grace marks given to 1563 students and arranged a new entrance test. Also, the NTA promised to terminate the grace marks issued to these 1563 students and gave them the choice of either reappearing for the latest exam or submitting their actual marks without the addition of grace marks. #neet #physicswallah #nta #newsupdate #finlatics #exam

It has barely been days since the NEET-UG and NET fiasco, and now the NEET PG exam has been postponed just hours before its commencement. Every day, the news highlights the disarray in our education system, exposing deep-rooted issues. Paper leaks and questionable integrity of exams extend beyond college admissions. Over the past five years, around 1.4 crore job seekers from all over the country have been affected by at least 48 instances of paper leaks in 16 states. Not just competitive exams, the education system has also been under scrutiny over school syllabus changes, like the omission of 'Democracy' topic from class 10 NCERT textbook. This highlights broader concerns about what is being prioritized in our curriculum. Yes, the history is written by the conqueror, but at least Civics could be spared. The pressure of the cut-throat competition is already overwhelming for the aspirants overwhelming for the aspirants. It shouldn't be the responsibility of students to worry about the failure of the system as well-which is exactly what this whole thing is 'failure of the system'. The political parties make this a hot talking point in their campaigns. However, from the Education Ministry to exam authorities, there's a clear gap in, forget resolving, but even addressing some of these issues. It took the Education Ministry two weeks and considerable public outcry to form a committee to reform the functioning of the NTA. Preparing for these make-or-break competitive exams demands years of dedication and countless sacrifices. At the very least, the education system owes it to aspirants and their families to ensure the integrity and reliability of these life-altering exams. From paper leaks and exams being cancelled or postponed to the selective exclusion of topics from the school syllabus, there are deep-rooted issues in our system. What's worse is the lack of accountability from the authorities unless there is a public outcry. We need drastic reforms, and we need them quickly, not just for the aspirants but for the future of the country. #neet #paperleak #media Alakh Pandey (PhysicsWallah) PW (PhysicsWallah)

SC verdict on NEET exam: students feel let down *****************************************************1 After the Supreme Court refused a retest for the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (Undergraduate) (NEET-UG) 2024, education coaches and students have come around to living with the situation. However, several students were disheartened by the judgement. Discouraging move: Delhi-based Chinmay Agarwal, who sat for the NEET exam for the fifth time, said he will not take it again as he does not want to repeat the experience. “The court is saying that allowing a retest will have a negative impact on the majority, and that the current paper leak didn’t affect the results…….Obviously, it had an impact, and we can see that from this year’s results,” said the 24-year-old. Aspirants drop: Test prep startups, including PhysicsWallah and Adda247, are also dissatisfied with the verdict but feel that it is time to move on. Anil Nagar, founder and chief executive of Google-backed edtech startup Adda247, said the controversy will lead to a decrease in the number of students taking the exam. Background: The Supreme Court on July 23 refused to cancel this year's all-India medical entrance examination, the NEET-UG 2024 held on May 5, and rejected pleas for a retest. The exam this year threw up several concerns such as granting grace marks to over 1,500 students, an unusually large number of students achieving perfect scores, and allegations that the question paper was leaked.
