Persistent lying to the media by the U.S. Postal Inspection Service continues. "USPIS spokesperson Postal Inspector Spencer Block told ABC 7 Chicago that "rewards offered play an important role in solving postal crimes...our agency's increased monetary rewards, particularly for violent crimes, have paid dividends to protecting postal employees...by identifying past criminal actors and preventing future ones from committing similar crimes." Block said "Project Safe Delivery," launched a year ago in response to the spike in robberies included increasing rewards for anyone sharing information with investigators leading to an arrest or conviction. "We put out wanted posters when we have good pictures and video of suspects. Rewards [were] up to $50,000 for arrest and conviction, now it's up to $150,000. That's a lot of money and money talks." INSPECTOR BLOCK'S STATEMENTS RE: REWARDS ARE KNOWINGLY AND ABSOLUTELY UNTRUE. My 12/2023 FOIA (2024-FPIS-00111) sought the following information re: USPIS reward programs: *The number of USPIS Reward Posters/Postings by USPIS Division for Fiscal Years 2018; 2019; 2020; 2021; 2022; 2023 and 2024 (to date). *The “face value” of USPIS Reward Posters issued by USPIS Division for Fiscal Years 2018; 2019; 2020; 2021; 2022; 2023 and 2024 (to date). *USPIS total “paid rewards” (for information leading to apprehension of fugitives sought in connection with postal offense or for information leading to arrest & conviction of criminal suspects) for Fiscal Years 2018; 2019; 2020; 2021; 2022; 2023 and 2024 (to date). USPIS' response differed from Inspector Block's assertions. Rewards ARE NOT playing an important role in solving postal crimes, nor are increased monetary rewards, particularly for violent crimes, paying ANY dividends to protecting postal employees. The FOIA response re: $150k rewards (up from $50k), in Chicago show issued & paid rewards, as follows: 2024: 0 issued & $0 paid 2023: 0 issued & $0 paid 2022: 0 issued & $0 paid 2021: $4000 paid (no indication as to why a $50-150k reward payment was prorated down to $4k) 2020: 0 issued & $0 paid 2019: $2000 paid (no indication as to why a $50-150k reward payment was prorated down to $2k) 2018: 0 issued & $0 paid 7 years of Chicago rewards totaled $6k in payouts. ($857/YEAR on average). Reward payouts were bigger during the Pony Express. Rewards played no role in solving postal crimes. Increased monetary rewards haven't paid dividends to protecting postal employees. USPIS deliberately lied to ABC 7 Chicago & Chicago postal customers in order to whitewash the ongoing/unchecked epidemic of mail theft and attacks on letter carriers. It has over 630,000 employees. -The Postal Service delivers to approximately 160 million addresses within the USA 6 days a week. -Because the Postal Service has so many employees driving to so many addresses, its annual mileage is enough to drive to the Sun and back to Earth FIVE times.☀️ -Annual operating revenue for the Postal Service is $78.8 Billion. -The Postal Service is well known for the Pony Express, but did you know it was a short-lived program? It only operated from April 3, 1860, to October 26, 1861. 🐴 -The Postal Service still delivers mail using mules. 10-22 mules are used daily, along with one wrangler on horseback, 5 days a week, traveling 9 miles down into the Grand Canyon to the Supai Post Office. Each mule can carry up to 200 pounds of mail. -The Postal Service is the oldest federal agency. It was formed on July 1, 1775. -Benjamin Franklin was the first Postmaster General. His salary was $1,000, about $33,500 in today's dollars. -The Postal Service is an independent agency of the executive branch. It has no access to the Treasury (Taxes). 💰 -As an independent agency of the executive branch. The Postal Service enjoys sovereign immunity. (It cannot be sued.)
