A refreshing perspective from Mayor Paula Southgate in this article from the Waikato Times. Often the positive impacts including vibrancy, economic prosperity (let alone increased rating base) are overlooked or deliberately down played. “Some Hamiltonians ask us to slow down or even stop growth because we "can't afford it". We just can't, nor do I believe we should. We also have a legislative responsibility to provide for current and future generations. Growth brings us new homes, new businesses and new people, to support those businesses and a stronger economy. We would also have less people to help fund core infrastructure and services, that we need now and in the future. The reality is that we need 1,300 homes a year for the next decade, just to cope with current demand. We must also continue to support business development, which provides jobs for our young population and keeps our economic engine ticking over nicely. More people enable and support robust and safe water infrastructure, a good roading network, and quality community facilities.” #GfHG #GoldenGoose

We believe your operation can have a healthy ecosystem, provide the owners/ operators with a good well-being, and all while being profitable. Eric and Leanne Fuchs of Mill Spring, MO were impressed by how the Ranching for Profit concepts and principles can be easily applied to any operation and are particularly beneficial to business partnerships. At the Ranching for Profit School we start by teaching finances and economics as this provides the baseline for a regenerative operation. #ranching4profit #soilhealth #ranchers

This is well worth a read. But, I completely disagree with the premise. Industrial heritage can't be the basis of northern politics according to the author - I say industrial heritage, particularly post-Thatcher, is unavoidably THE definitive basis of northern politics, not just politics, but culture and identity too. As some who works in heritage, as well as being a Mancunian in absentia myself, the debate about the 'Manchester model' and the type of city it has become is one for me that urgently needs to be had in mainstream media. 'Certainly, where once London was the Manchester of the south, Manchester is now the London of the north'. Manchester is the city that gave the world both capitalism and Marxism, and has yet to resolve that fact to this day. Industrial heritage can't solve everything, but we can't underestimate the way that it shapes individuals, communities and entire regions to this day. https://lnkd.in/eDMyh9ih

My old Urban Forum colleague and fellow Welshman John P. Houghton's policy briefings are always worth a close read - he gives us a great historical overview of the issue, beautifully summarises currently thinking, illustrates with fascinating anecdotes and usually has a host of good ideas that I can pass off as my own in order to sound clever in meetings. What's not to like? This one is all about high street regeneration - if that's on your radar, this is essential reading 👇 https://lnkd.in/eVSZkx2v
