Starting a business can be scary and extremely expensive. One way of saving money and protecting your fledgling business is to contract a freelance finance manager who knows how to set up what you need, who can take you through the whole process and who'll be by your side until you're ready to recruit a full time Finance Director. So many start up businesses plunge directly into searching for a full time employee when what they need is flexible support to get them started. Always consider freelancers in the first instance. Surround yourself with the support that you need on your own terms and refrain from tying yourself up in knots with long term employment contracts that may be hard to get out of, especially while you're finding your way. Remember, everything in baby steps. There are thousands of freelancers out there, ready to help and support you. Ask for recommendations, ask your friends and associates who they use, ask your accountant - think before you post that employment advert on Indeed...

Hi, I need help with recommendations for a client on #procurement software programmes. #Creative business who work on multiple #projects with personalised #budgets, purchasing by card and paying suppliers on terms. They use Xero. We need to locate an add on which allows you to budget projects, create #PO's and #automate the approval process across all payment types. We've tried #Approvalmax but they only pull through supplier bills and not card purchases and only sync with #Xero Budget Manager instead of Xero Budget Variance for their approval "green light" within budget indicator. We've also approached #Precoro, but they don't sync Xero to Precoro, only Precoro to Xero and only bills, not with card purchases either. Scratching our heads as there's obviously either a huge hole in the marketplace or we're missing something that already exists. If you have any recommendations of reasonably priced software that can take our #purchasing data, link it a PO approval system and ensure we stay within project budgets, please let me know!!

OK, so we all know CPD is really important but when you're already working every hour keeping up with the demands of your clients, how do you find time to do CPD and what do you prioritise? Genuine question. Looking for inspiration and practical tips from fellow financial jugglers out there 😎
