Over the last three conferences I’ve attended, the Intercultural Development Inventory® (IDI®) has been highlighted from the stage. This is no coincidence. Companies are increasingly recognizing that CULTURE is at the heart of sustainable DEI practices, and therefore organizational success. Working across borders and cultures can be difficult. A smile is universal and probably one of the best starting points to bridge any culture. But beyond that, what's the next step? In a couple of MIT sessions we've talked about the benefit of diversity. But this also comes with demands to be able to navigate differences. During a session yesterday with Prof. Blanca Herrero de Egaña Muñoz-Cobo, Ph.D. (We) she showed a tool that I think can be really useful looking into. Obviously this only gives a very general view of a country and its culture. But knowing the basics will at least give you a good starting point. Test the tool here by adding two countries:
