Reflecting back on our first UK SCI Nature & Biodiversity Forum in June, key takeaways on challenges and opportunities for collective action included: 🌍 There is no 'one size fits all' approach to applying voluntary frameworks. Such frameworks are complex to apply in their entirety, but provide a consistent direction of travel for corporate action on nature. 🌍 Measuring nature impact is a considerable challenge, given the complexity of developing consistent metrics for a vast array of factors. But service providers are making significant progress in this area. 🌍 There is an opportunity - and need - for stronger cross-sector collaboration on nature and biodiversity. Lesson-sharing and peer support can help to accelerate action. Efeca provides a constructive space for industry collaboration on #nature and #biodiversity through the UK SCI, and dedicated one-two-one support - reach out to a member of our team if you would like to learn more. 🐝 Today marks the International Day for Biological Diversity, a United Nations initiative to promote biodiversity awareness. This year's theme, "Be part of the Plan", encourages everyone to highlight how they support the implementation of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework , also known as the Biodiversity Plan. The Biodiversity Plan was adopted in 2020, it sets goals and concrete measures to stop and reverse the loss of nature by 2050. In this effort, sustainable finance plays a crucial role. 🔎 Would you like to learn more about how to integrate biodiversity into financial decisions? Have a look at the summary report of the LSFI Biodiversity Masterclass! This summary report delves into... - where biodiversity stands; - why its preservation is pivotal for our future; - key international activities, commitments and frameworks that seek to address the urgency of the situation and that can support financial institutions in this field; - main steps and practical examples of how to integrate biodiversity into investment decisions by designing internal frameworks, assessing risk and applying certain strategies. Big thanks once again to the LSFI Biodiversity masterclass speakers: Bhavya Sharma, Emine Isciel, eric schauls and Gabriela Hermosilla Access the summary report ➡️ https://lnkd.in/eR4Vh4ui Learn more about the International Day for Biological Diversity ➡️ https://lnkd.in/efX5CMn Learn more about the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework ➡️ https://www.cbd.int/gbf #biodiversity #sustainablefinance #ESG

A programme that aims to halt the net loss of biodiversity by 2030 in Mexico, while developing nature markets including biodiversity credits with regional governments, has been announced in an alliance between French and Mexican companies. The NetPositive 2030 programme, focused on biodiversity, carbon, and water, will be supported by a partnership between France-based biodiversity credits company Nat5 and Mexico-headquartered consultancy MEXHUB de Economía Circular. Two Mexican states are involved so far, with MexHub tasked with incentivising others to join, in an initiative that aims to build momentum over time, said🌱 Guillermo H., CEO of Nat5. The programme will focus on generating nature credits across biodiversity, soil, water, and carbon from regeneration projects financed by corporations. “While the programme is designed to make significant contributions toward halting biodiversity loss, it is important to clarify that we are not claiming to achieve this alone,” Hinojos told Thomas Cox. “Instead, the initiative aims to play a crucial role in fostering collaboration among various stakeholders – including governments, private sector companies, and local communities – to collectively work toward this important goal.” Read and subscribe: https://lnkd.in/eSDfrDcw

Action is urgently needed to halt the ecological crises (we may say: sixth mass extinction wave) we have induced. ⏰🐝 Quantitative assessments such as lifecycle assessment (LCA), can contribute to understanding the drivers and solutions of the crises. ‘Biodiversity’, however, is such an all-encompassing term that it can impossibly be represented in a single LCA indicator: it is key to investigate biodiversity loss from different angles, using a complementary set of metrics. Therefore, I am proud to have contributed to the implementation of the Mean Species Abundance (MSA) loss indicator in LCA context, building on work by PBL. We used this metric to assess the biodiversity impact of the Dutch diet and developed a tool for scenario analysis of interventions on farm, supply-chain, and diet level to reduce this biodiversity impact. 👩🌾🛒🥗 A scientific publication (in collaboration with PBL) is in preparation, to facilitate widespread adoption of the MSA loss metric in LCA studies.
Excited to share one of our initiatives at Blonk! We are dedicated to advancing sustainable food systems, and our collaboration with PBL Planbureau voor de Leefomgeving has been a significant milestone. Together, we tackled the challenge of quantifying biodiversity loss within Life Cycle Assessment methodologies by integrating the 'Mean Species Abundance' biodiversity metric. 🌍 🦋 🍃 🍽 By applying this innovative approach to analyze Dutch food consumption data, we uncovered valuable new insights. 🔎 💡 Curious about the details? 👉 Check out our latest article! https://lnkd.in/ewkn5wHm #lifecycleassessment #biodiversityloss #sustainablefoodsystems #LCA #teamwork

𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐁𝐢𝐨𝐝𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐏𝐥𝐚𝐧 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟒 As we commemorate the International Day for Biological Diversity on May 22nd, 2024, the theme “Be Part of the Plan” resonates as a clarion call for collective action to safeguard our planet’s rich tapestry of life. This year’s observance holds particular significance, as it coincides with the adoption of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework, a comprehensive roadmap to halt and reverse the alarming decline of biodiversity by 2050. The Biodiversity Plan, as it is aptly referred to, offers a unique opportunity for diverse stakeholders to unite in a concerted effort to protect and restore the intricate web of life that sustains our existence. Governments, indigenous communities, non-governmental organizations, businesses, and individuals alike are urged to embrace this plan and actively contribute to its implementation. Biodiversity, the incredible variety of living organisms that inhabit our planet, is the foundation upon which human well-being and sustainable development rest. From providing essential resources like food, water, and medicine to regulating our climate and maintaining the delicate balance of ecosystems, biodiversity is indispensable to our survival and prosperity. However, the relentless pressures of human activities, such as habitat destruction, overexploitation, pollution, and climate change, have pushed biodiversity to the brink of crisis. The loss of species and ecosystems not only threatens our own existence but also undermines the resilience of our planet and its ability to support future generations. The Biodiversity Plan offers a comprehensive framework to address these challenges, setting ambitious yet achievable targets for protecting and restoring ecosystems, promoting sustainable use of natural resources, and ensuring the fair and equitable sharing of benefits arising from the utilization of genetic resources. We at Aqua-Farms Organization - AFO as guardians of biodiversity, look up to supporting and investing in sustainable practices that promote the conservation and sustainable use of our natural resources. ‘𝘉𝘦 𝘗𝘢𝘳𝘵 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘱𝘭𝘢𝘯, 𝘭𝘦𝘵’𝘴 𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘨𝘦 𝘢 𝘧𝘶𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘦 𝘸𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘦 𝘸𝘦 𝘤𝘰𝘦𝘹𝘪𝘴𝘵 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩 𝘯𝘢𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘦’ #aquafarmsimpactstory
