 I am very happy to see that the 5G rail "Strategic Deployment Agenda" (SDA) has been endorsed by the EU "Smart Networks and Services" Joint Undertaking (#SNS JU). #EIM with CER and UIC have worked together to set a vision to implement 5G across 𝗘𝘂𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗮𝗻 #𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗹 𝗰𝗼𝗿𝗿𝗶𝗱𝗼𝗿𝘀. EIM Rail infrastructure managers are definitely committed to develop advanced digital operations  and be prepared to manage the rail network of the future.

🚅 𝗚𝗼𝗼𝗱 𝗻𝗲𝘄𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝘂𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗹! The 𝟱𝗚 𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗴𝗶𝗰 𝗗𝗲𝗽𝗹𝗼𝘆𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗔𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗮 '𝟱𝗚 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗻𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗦𝗽𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗺 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗥𝗮𝗶𝗹' has been released, outlining groundbreaking developments in passenger connectivity and the digitalization of rail operations. 🚊 The 5G SDA is a strategic document for Smart Networks and Services Joint Undertaking (SNS JU) as it aligns with its mission to implement 5G technologies across 𝗘𝘂𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗮𝗻 𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗹 𝗰𝗼𝗿𝗿𝗶𝗱𝗼𝗿𝘀, supporting the critical transition to sustainable transport through digital innovation, while enabling advanced rail operations that will revolutionize the future of European rail transportation. In the 𝟱𝗚 𝗦𝗗𝗔 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗥𝗮𝗶𝗹, two major initiatives are described: 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗚𝗶𝗴𝗮𝗯𝗶𝘁 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗻 and 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗗𝗶𝗴𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗥𝗮𝗶𝗹 𝗢𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀. 🔹𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗚𝗶𝗴𝗮𝗯𝗶𝘁 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗻 – Seamless connectivity for passengers, delivering a similar experience to being online at home or work, even when travelling at high speeds across borders. 🔹𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗗𝗶𝗴𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗥𝗮𝗶𝗹 𝗢𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 – Leveraging 5G Mission Critical technology to replace GSM-R and enable a fully digitalized rail system. This includes applications and communication services necessary for train movements, enhanced rail traffic management, and improved performance and safety. ⚡ This is not just about better internet - it's about revolutionizing the entire rail ecosystem, from passenger experiences to operational excellence, in line with the European Commission policy objectives. The 5G Strategic Deployment Agenda (5G SDA) sets a bold clear vision for the future of rail.   More than just better connectivity, the 5G SDA highlights how rail can lead in Europe’s green and digital transitions, enhancing operational excellence as well as passenger connectivity services. This vision aligns perfectly with UIC’s mission to innovate and ensure rail remains the backbone of sustainable mobility.   As part of this transformation, the Future Railway Mobile Communication System (FRMCS) plays a pivotal role in ensuring continuity for the GSM-R obsolescence, and, even more important, enabling the railways digitalization and connectivity of the rail sector. At the heart of our approach is the implementation of Local Digital Twins (LDTs). These powerful tools allow us to visualize, analyze, and simulate data like never before—leading to smarter, data-driven decisions for our community. By integrating data from multiple sources, we’re building a solid database that supports live visualizations, automated actions, and insightful analytics. Our pilot projects focus on optimizing the management of resources like energy and water.
