Stay Strong Everyone – We are in this together! Hitting 23 permanent placements by mid-year isn’t a bad stat, especially in today’s challenging recruitment market. But, I can’t help but feel it could have been A LOT better. This year, an additional 10 candidates accepted offers, filled out paperwork, had great conversations with managers, and myself over weeks of engagement, expressed their excitement to start... Then all of a sudden withdraw with no real explanation. Six of these last 10 withdrawals happened in the last four weeks alone! I’m broken! In my 10 years in recruitment, this has been the toughest year yet. Despite being a generally positive person, I’m struggling. I feel like I’m letting myself down, my company, and most importantly, my clients. But here’s what I’ve learned: I can’t control other people’s actions, only my own. If you’re also finding it tough this year, know you’re not alone. We’re in this together, and sometimes, if we don’t laugh, we’ll cry... A LOT. As always Q1 has been extremely busy in building services this year. As we finalise placements for June, I've also been busy speaking with clients about what's next. Even the businesses who felt they might be cooling off for a bit are still pushing forward. There seems to be a lot of opportunity for consultants at the moment but key part of their success is hiring. Some businesses are doing that very well. I'm seeing salaries increasing, benefits packages improving (some of the benefits I've heard about are so good I regularly find my friends and family asking me to stop going on about them). It really is an excellent time to be looking for new opportunities. However, time and time again I'm seeing people leaving jobs within 6 months because they didn't have enough info to decide if a role was right for them, or often, a role was mis-sold to them. I would really encourage you to drop message if you want to be as informed as possible when making a move. I've been working in this market for over 6 years and know it well. I've made literally thousands of phone calls to industry professionals which has helped me build a very detailed picture of the market. I can help steer you towards the best opportunities for you based on what is important to you. And if an opportunity isn't right, I wont be trying to convince you otherwise. I've made a lot of placements in the past 6 years and almost all of them are still in those same positions.
