Sepsis is not the same as blood poisoning. Often in the media we see sepsis referred to as blood poisoning, which is not correct. Sepsis is one of the least well-understood medical conditions and is the number one cause of preventable death in the world. It can be hard to diagnose due to the similarity of its symptoms with other illnesses. The term “sepsis” refers to the body’s inflammatory over-response to infection.
